The “nacho watch(es)”...do you loan people your watch(es)?

I often lend out jewellery to family. Particularly my cousin. These are the favourite ones asked for:

But as for watches. No. Maybe if someone asked for something specific. But they haven't. So, no.

I’ve let my son borrow my SubC for a weekend on a few occasions. It’s going to be his someday anyway.

3. When? Last year, a few times
4. Where? On mommy and daddy's bed. He was 5, and daddy isn't totally stupid.
5. Why? "daddy, daddy, daddy, please, please, please, please, please..."
6. How long? A minute or so at a time

Gotta let them start learning early. He has a small Timex and a digital Paw Patrol watch.

Have gifted several to siblings & family members, puts the onus on them to take care of it (or at least removes the tress from me), but my kids are still in the "likely to throw it in the toilet / out of the car" phase [our 2 yo ran the remote under the faucet today to clean it off 🤦] .

I spose if I trusted a friend/colleague and they were in the market for a watch I'd probably loan it out for a few days.

@Mad Dog love tbe dual wrist action. And the bow tie!

I have told my siblings they can borrow any watch they want. My sister has the keys to the safe. They don t like the idea of paying for any damages or losses so have never taken me up on the offer. I gifted a waffle dial constellation f300 to my nephew and offered my dad a seamaster, but he didn't t want it so I use it. I don t think I would loan any to anyone else friend or otherwise, I think STANDY’s YFIYFI rule would put most friends off.

Just put in a call to Dunkin'...they can't confirm the identity of the man in the middle without a coffee...they assume from the photo that he is a local professor.

Do you loan people your watch(es)?

1. Who?
Various friends.

2. What?
1969 Heuer Carrera.

3. When?
Several times, roughly from early '70s to mid '90s.

4. Where?
UK race circuits.

5. Why?
To note my times during practice sessions. I had tried taping the watch to the steering wheel and generaly forgot to press the pusher at the right time. I also had problems writing down the times while steering into the next corner 😵‍💫. This was all pre-electronic timing of course.

6. How long?
Probably about 15 minutes a go. Unless I had crashed and needed to wait and take the tow-truck ride back to the paddock.

Nowadays it's just for wrist shots at GTGs.

No. To anyone. I bought my son a $2 Timex from the flea market to wear on special occasions, like band night

My son, age 9

2. What?
Various watches: Speedy pro (ST1, Tintin, 145.022), SMP Bond, Speedy Mark 40, Casio G-shock, Swatch System 51... but not my 2998-4, Flightmaster nor BLNR.

3. When?
At night before he goes to bed so he can stare at lume and time his sleep, or during the day for special occasions (car shows, road trip, museum visit, etc.)

4. Where?
Home and outside when out and about... but always under my close watch (pun intended!)… because HE is priceless!!!

5. Why?
Well.... Why not? He loves watches and it makes him super happy (and me, by extension, as I enjoy sharing this passion with him)!! Some day, they will be his anyway...

6. How long?
A few hours... to a day.

Here he is a few weeks ago at the Greenwich concours (pictures # 53 and 56). 👍

Just this morning taking my wife to the airport she realized she had forgot her PO so I lent he my gen 2 x-33 for the trip. Went on an Omega sponsored NASA trip and took my dad, he needed to represent Omega so I loaned him my x-33 Skywalker. I think I will let him keep it.
