Hi OF, Been watching this in eBay for the past couple of days, I knew it was gonna go for big money, but wasn't expecting the bidding to escalated this quickly! What do you guys think? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/292060170753Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Case looks really good, wide bevel still very visible. Puffy radium, MkII dial with red writing (If I'm not mistaken?), original brevet crown, correct case back with ref at the back? Any guess on how much will this bring? Best Andre
Have the wealthy just run out of things to spend their money on? Whilst things like this create discusions, it just pushes the prices up making it more and more difficult for most people to be able to enjoy something vintage. Just my opinion....
This watch was and is very very rare and sought after. It was valuable far before the recent hype. About 5 are known to exist so far .... I guess this will hit close to the 200k mark, IF we see the end of the auction. Some info&history for the interested: https://bulangandsons.com/the-unique-tudor-heritage-black-bay-one-reference-7923001/ (Mainly about the BB-One but with history about the 7923) More info about 7923 https://tudorcollector.com/subs/submariner-model-7923/ Cheers, Max
Thanks for sharing the links. Do you happen to keep track of those 5 watches that are known to exist so far?
You'r welcome. I wish I would be in the game for watches like these, but I'm not . A friend of mine passed me the links and info. He's more into the Rolex/Tudor collecting, but also far away from those 100k+ watches. He btw. suggested 250k+ for one of those if auctioned by one of the major players, Phillips Christies and the likes.
Saw that too - noticed that he checked the lume after locking the watch in a safety deposit box. He's probably in there with it, scared witless over all the weird people showering him with all sorts of odd requests!
I'm sorry this is just insane for an old tool watch that was Rolex's bargain brand. But some .25% will take the prize and it will languish in the dark once more.
The seller has only 12 feedbacks so if were to bid on this watch and win, I will fly to where he is and do a face to face pick up and payment. Too much of a risk to send that large amount and hope that the seller will ship the watch. It happened to me almost 15 years ago when I won the bidding for vintage Rolex Daytona 6239 on ebay. I sent the money and never heard from the seller again. Painful experience.
How is this insane? In terms of rarity a 2915-1 or a Paul Newman daytona are run of the mill watches compared to this. Point given to you that it will most likely vanish into some Collectors Watchcave never to be seen again.
I read the write ups and still think its insane, but then I'm a collector too so that's like the pot calling the kettle black.
The fact that it's not running is a non-issue for a watch like this. A service might be 0.5% of the cost of this watch, at most.
Still what would you rather spend the cash on? One of these days I'm gonna screw up my courage, have a fire sale and then......
Even if I hit the Powerball tomorrow, I can't see myself ever being the type of collector to spend 6 figures on a watch and then put it in a safe deposit box. I need to be able to wear my watches.
Right now it's in Torville-Raynek territory, but if it is worth more than $200K...well that's a whole different kettle of fish. I'm curious - how many vintage Submariner's are worth that kind of scratch?
Just keep in mind that whoever buys the watch will be able to resell it for twice as much in a couple of years.
