What? Let me say that again... What? http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-BEAUTI...CHRONOGRAPH-/291553228959?hash=item43e1ed389fPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network This is already at twice was they went for a year and a half ago. Lunacy, I say! $4,200 with 3 days to go? The madness....
It seems individuals in the Hodinkee circle that are aware that a particular vintage watch will be profiled in a month or two could use that info to their advantage. A form of insider trading, if you will.
It's a shame too, because that watch is in great condition, and very nice.. Sigh. Get your cash together and wait for the market crash.. Then buy your wishlist
Gotta draw my line....somewhere, only since chasing another ... Merely astute market awareness/knowledge, perhaps. Smart!
I feel like Hodinkee's Bring a Loupe doesn't really bring up some unique or under the radar watches like they used to when Eric Wind was there. I remember everytime my notification popped up about Bring a Loupe or What's Selling Where, I just dropped whatever I'm doing and went straight to the website. But now I probably just see it the next day. Their stuff are quite mainstream and you can find it yourself with just regular notifications on your search engines.
Eric always brought unusual insight and very often a fresh perspective on ignored models to the column, and he knew how to turn over some out-of-the way rocks in search of a rarity - both the marks of genuine passion. Beyond the individual watches, I learned a thing or two about where to look from him.
got to say it, Hodinkee or not, there is something a little weird .... Taking identical previous and equally great condition pieces into consideration, I thought it would top out between 3 and 3.5 but it has gone well beyond that and looks like it will easily make 5 ! Have we all lost the plot ?
Me neither. I would love to see a head count on these. It's ok bleating at prices but I bet there are not many examples of this watch to be found.
ill go with "insider trading". some sellers are just testing "what the market will bare" and not planning to sell - just yet. best avoid this item.
@vinn2 might be referring to the 'shill' bidding that goes on, on eBay frequently. Someone the seller knows (or another ID of the seller's) makes sure to bid the price up until it's beyond anyone's reach..., but I'm not saying that's what's happening with the ad in question in the OP...
