Ive always sang the praises of acrylic crystals. Be it the patina, shape, warmth, feel, etc I naturally gravitate to them. Now, I’ve finally realized why I tangibly cannot live with a sapphire crystal: smudge magnets!
    The horror!

So if sapphire crystals are smudge magnets, can we call acrylic crystals scratch magnets?

yes and as you illustrated much more pronounced with dark colored dials.

sapphire crystals can be called "scratches and chips that cannot be polished out magnets" and acrylic can be called "scratches can be easily removed magnets" :D

So, if you don't like it, just take it off. Your watchmaker can do it in a snap.

    Some people.

Such are the burdens of a first world people.....getting upset at the smudges of a sapphire crystal on a $8,000+ watch. The horror indeed.

Does anyone know how much a watchmaker charges to fix a smudged crystal? Should I send it to @Archer ?

And I though being without food and medicine was something of a horror..... I do however agree that hesalite can be more appealing....

I must confess I do prefer acrylic to any other material for watch crystals(for many reasons). And yes sapphire does seem to attract smudges horribly, worse than mineral even.

Exaggerated maybe but I can relate to the OP here.

That might only get you on the disposal waiting list... no guarantee he'll actually take it off your hands..

I find tissues, a t-shirt or just about any soft cloth to work just fine at removing smudges...
