Ahhh it is another branding effort. Gold plated. Gold filled. Gold capped. Golden egg.
Big difference between gold-plating, gold-filled and gold-capped.
Plating is done with electricity and pure gold in solution that collects on the plated surface.
Gold-filled and gold-capped cases are made by pressure bonding of a layer of gold alloy over base metal. Capped is generally several times thicker than filled.
The most common (non-gold) example of this process would be US coinage, particularly 10, 25 and 50 cent pieces. If you turn one of these coins on its side, you can see the alternating layers of copper-nickel and solid copper. Here are some 10 cent coins with a older silver dime thrown in for contrast:
