Hi, this is my first Seamaster and the glass looks dirty and oily though I clean it like crazy. Is this some special coating or what? Thanks

It has an AR coating on it, that may have been partially polished off, resulting in that. You can polish the rest of it off with some polywatch if you like and it'll be clear after that.

Just wash it with dishwashing liquid.

I would recommend using some glass cleaner - not the kind you clean windows with, but the kind you get with a pair of eyeglasses. These are formulated to be very gentle on coated plastic eyeglass lenses, so I use them on sapphire crystals often to remove smudges that just won't come off when wiping with a dry cloth.

It's possible that the coating on the outside has been partially polished off, and if that the case you have 3 choices:

    1 - leave as is

2 - polish the remainder off - I use fine diamond paste for this - little drop on the crystal, 10 seconds rubbing it with my finger, wipe away and the AR coating is gone.

    3 - replace the crystal - expensive.

    Cheers, Al

Why do I have the feeling the watch was bought pre-owned and not new? If so, I have the best solution:

It is a used watch right? As in, "used" meaning "not brand new", right?

I use the 1/2 micron for removing the AR coating...
