Hi to all, I always think about this particular watch and I don't understand why doesn't get much attention right now even do I think in the future will be much more desirable as less sales in the history. It seems that any want prefers the submariner even do this is a superior tool watch. You don't find many on sale compared to the Submariners also their sales must be much less. What are your thoughts on the watch ? thanks to all and have a great weekend
Nice SD and love the tritium , mine doesn't have it. Hope we get more comments on the subject. When I bought mine, in that shop there were may be 30 SUBS and just one SD, so I took it because I like more the fitting and secondly because was the only one therefore more exclusive
A great watch. Everyone have or want the freaking subs which is annoying. The SD is a great watch pretty much bullet proof. And yes, a SD is my next watch to put next to my speedy @77deluxe Love your watch with the grey Bezel.
2006 Sea Dweller owner here. When I started perusing for a Submariner I went to the Rolex website to see the current model and got sucked in by the Sea Dweller. A little beefier, no cyclops, and who wouldn't want a 4000' rating? I started reading blogs and was overwhelmed by the Submariner fans and all the variations and versions. After a few weeks of that I took a break and ran across a story about the development of the Sea Dweller and was hooked. I have a blue Seamaster Diver 300m that I bought for every day wear and love it, but the Sea Dweller gets a nod here and there from some folks. Nice to go back and forth and enjoy both.
I highly doubt it’s forgotten. The 16600 is a tank. Wore mine everywhere, doing everything and didn’t skip a beat. Despite the abuse it took, its first and only service was 2 years ago - 17 years since I first bought it new. It’s now running at a constant +1 sec/day - slightly better than when she was new. Just absolutely amazing! Perfect dimensions, great legibility and aesthetics. Best of all, it doesn’t have that pesky cyclops. Best sport Rolex watch ever, IMO. I may even venture to say THE best sport watch, ever.
They take a lot of criticism due to the increased thickness of the case but it has never bothered me. I don’t find it that much different from a sub.
Nice! I love the faded bezel. Ghostly. I'd prefer a Sea-Dweller over a Submariner. For both kit and for being at least slightly different from the norm.
this statement is reassuring to me! as part of me believes in the "if-not-broken-don't-fix" concept! ..and good looking SD you got there! enjoy!
So nice hearing about watches being worn regularly with no mention of silly value discussions. I'm curious, it went 17 years without service, was it serviced by a Rolex Service Center (or authorized watchmaker) and what was needed during service to make it right? I fully agree with you on all of these points. This watch for me has a similar simple and gorgeous look of a no-date sub but with important added functionality of the date. For me personally, it is "THE best sport watch, ever." I know that's not a common view, and I also know giving any single watch such a label can be contentious and gets into dangerous territory as labels aren't value added. However, it is valid for me and a 16600 will likely join my collection at some point...
I am so glad more than one SD 16600 owners responded, because for a long while I thought of the question myself. In Rolex sport watches the SD 16600 is THE Rolex in my eyes. Especially, after I put the Rolex glide lock 97200 on my SD. It has become my perfect watch period.
