The Daytona Cosmograph Thread

I'm giddy like a schoolgirl (maybe giddier) after picking up another watch. So I didn't see a Daytona thread, and I know many of you have one, and some of you have a few. Lets see them. Here are three of mine, including the new addition. The black EP is at the bank. I'll add that photo later. I loved the white dial until I was about 40...now I like the black much better. Sorry, original photos were huge. I shrunk them a bit.

At one time I had three too, but in the early 2000s I sold my white exotic dial 6239… big mistake considering the crazy prices today. I still made a huge profit, no tears please, as I bought the watch in the late 1980s. Life goes on… and who knew?

This one’s a lot newer but it’s one of my favourite pieces, it was issued to Sir Jackie in 2004 and given as a gift to an old friend of his, bought it off that man’s son

I love old Speedmasters, but these old Cosmographs are up at the top of the list, too. Some beautiful, historic watches here already. I'd love to add at least one 6263 or 6265, but with prices as they are, that's not likely. Those refs, I believe, are the most beautiful. Rolex did a great job making each ref. amazing and unique.

In case any of you are looking for a quick way to distinguish the EP vs the later 4130 watches, take a look at the "6"s on the bezels. On the EPs, it looks almost like a child drew the 6. That was changed on the later models. Also, notice the left and right subdials on the 4130 do not line up perfectly with the center. On the EP, they line up. Of course the size of indices and hands, etc, but I don't see mention of the bezels, usually.

Man falls to ground as expert educates him in full on his Rolex Oyster Daytona. Valued at 5 to 7 hundred thousand USD at auction!

All very nice. My favorite is the white dialed one...much easier to read/use in its chronograph function. And maybe even better looking than the others...the black dial watch thing is getting a bit overdone for my taste. Enjoy them all.

I agreed with you completely when I bought the white dial back in the mid 90s. It was a VERY rare purchase of a new watch from a dealer. At the time, he happened to have had both the white and black dials that he was supposed to sell to one of the people on his wait list but chose to sell at a premium for cash....and he literally used the money to take a vacation. I still got a watch that was even then impossible to find for about 6k and was pleased. I never for one second considered the black dial then, and I wore that watch religiously for many years, but at some point my tastes made a very clear shift. It just happened. And I still wear the white dial very rarely. The 6239 spends its life behind bars, sadly.

I love mine, with a black dial.
But I wish it would have a matte dial und brushed lugs/brushed bracelet. After owning it for about 8 years, it's now too glossy and shiny for me. The older I get (56) and the worse my eyes can see (in spite of sliding vision glasses), this Daytona is becomming more unreadable for me and is losing its suitability for daily use. But I will keep it nevertheless 😉.

I think my loss of love for the white dial Daytona EP was in large part due to the shiny bezel and white gold bits on the dial, too. Yours looks great. If you want to know the actual time, look at your phone.

I would rather wear several watches at the same time - like Mr. Hajek - than look at my phone.
