So we know people are trying mostly unsuccessfully to scalp these above $10k at the moment but IMO there's a much better alternative in the same line that can be had for similar money Here you've got an eBay CK2998 for $10,500 USD: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Speed...a1812fde5:g:6ykAAOSwbsBXmKRS&autorefresh=truePurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network And for $450 more: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Omega-S...945457?hash=item3d2150c0f1:g:pz4AAOSwGYVXAve0Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network So you lose the lolly pop hand, you gain a stunning Sedna gold case and a far more exclusive watch than one there are 3000 units of floating around. For $450 extra its a total no brainer for me, the golden panda 2998 is just stunning to me.
I admittedly know nothing about this model, but what's the story with the (apparently) yellow stop-second hand and case ring, given that the rest of the metal appears to be pink?
The one just sold on eBay only made £4,800 and with several on offer it's unlikely that any level of premium will be maintained for the CK.
So after fees £250 plus paypal fees £163 or there abouts it works out about £4380. So mine that I've sold to a Uk member for £4100 (UK List) is actually its market value. Oh and my money is on a Sedna gold version all day long @ $10k
Precisely, its a great watch at its list price it just isn't worth losing your head about if you have to overpay for it when there are great options at every higher price point.
People are just assuming the CK2998 will turn out EXACTLY like the Snoopy, but I don't see it happening.
Nearly right but no PayPal as cash on collection or bank transfer. But agree market value is on sales not asking price. But so far had no reply from eBay buyer hopefully not another waster. Not sold till money in the bank
Just had a look on Chrono24. No fewer than 10 CK2998s on offer at an average asking price of £7,058. With this number available and the last eBay sale being at £4,800, I don't imagine there'll be any takers for any of these, (their price range being £6,668 to £7,427). Hard to see why they would go at anything above the MRRP.
How many watches (modern) would resale at or above retail? I'd have better luck finding a Pichachu Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
So here's the thing. Those that really wanted and placed an order, well not all of them have been delivered yet. And as of last week I came across an OB in the UK that was that still prepared to take an order. Stating that their 1 allocation had yet to fulfilled. So I still don't get really why there is any real premium associated with the watch right now. I was still impressed that the OF member here sold for 4.8K GBP. Chrono24 is a graveyard for overpriced watches in general. IMO I still think this watch has a place over time. But those that bought for a quick turnaround will need to sit on it or just decide to wear I do like the Sedna. But I do prefer the already written off lollipop.
Yes Joe, it is difficult to understand why there has been any premium, except . . . there are obviously some people who like to get involved in hype - are often themselves contributors to it - which is self-fuelling as sheep-like behaviour compounds the recruiting of 'followers'. The design of the dial is clumsy - the sub-dials are too tightly clustered together and the large expanse of white 'field' in the upper area makes for a visual imbalance. I think people have been led to describe it as beautiful as a received wisdom, the latest version of the Emperor's New Clothes. I'm also puzzled as to why Omega would disrespect their own heritage by using the CK2889 name for something that just doesn't look like a Speedmaster, let alone one of the earliest, iconic models. I presume that there will always be a smallish group of people who will want to get onto the wait list for a Special/Limited Edition. However, as this one shows, if the product doesn't justify the hype, supply/demand soon rebalances and an appropriate 'price' emerges.
Not that I'm yet in that league of $ per single watch, but I did put that Sedna at US$11k on my watch list earlier this week. I popped into the Brisbane OB last month, just to pick up the latest Lifetime magazine, and spotted the Sedna FOIS in the cabinet. No idea how accurate the sales girl's recollection of $30k to $33k (AUD) was but the watch stayed in the case. At the eBay price it's definitely worth extra thought. However, at this stage I'm happy to get my "panda fix" with my Movado Datron. (Admittedly a completely different proposition).
