And the dial isn’t too shonky either... Was lucky enough to land this rather lovely 168.004 at auction today. Comes with its box as a bonus, has the recessed crown and the movement looks pretty tidy. (Although the gasket appears to have gone AWOL) Apparently it has an Omega strap and buckle but it remains to be seen what they are like. To top it off, it’s likely a birth year watch which I’ve been hankering after for a while.
I’m always blown away when I see the stunning copper plating and overall finish of these 5xx movements from Omega. Congrats on your birth year watch. Nice !
Nice pickup Phil. Must say absolutely mint for a birth year, didn’t realise Constellations were around in the 40’s
That does look nice - congratulations! Very nice detail with the hidden crown; a detail that is as lovely to look at as it is frustrating to use
Well, what can I say, the watch arrived this morning and it is as sharp as the auction house pics. On top of that, it came with the unexpected bonus of the outer box which wasn't mentioned in the listing. I don't have one of these, so I'm really chuffed about that. -and the buckle and croc strap do indeed look like the genuine articles. The box is in perfect condition, most likely because it was kept in the outer box -which is much more substantial than I expected. Interesting that the inner tray is significantly more robust than the ones I have in my mid-late 60s Connie boxes. Pics
Great package with the boxes as well. Congratulations. The recessed crown makes it look even more crisp and clean
Congratulations! And you got it for a very good price. BTW, the outer cardboard box was mentioned in the listing
I saw the watch in person and was very tempted to bid but I was working that day and decided not to leave a commission bid. I thought the price was where I imagined it might be for an auction that wasn't online. Glad it went to someone on here.
That's a really sweet little pick up. I wonder, in the cycle of watch collecting, when the birth year watch becomes a real must have? When I got my first (the MkII you saw at the last GTG) it was pretty much by accident. I've bought another couple since then just because they were birth year. Enjoy yours and I look forward to seeing it in a couple of months once it's cleaned up.
i didn't realize that recessed crowns existed. Something new every day. Thank you for sharing, and congrats on your watch
Do you know, I simply didn't take that in. It's not like me but I must have been too excited by the prospect and only looked at the pics provided.
Happy that there was one less bidder Well it was on-line of course but on this occasion I bid on it by telephone from my hotel room in Kuwait
