The buyer may have had a different reason for selling it other than profit, who knows. He couldn't sell it here again due to post count, it would seem.

Wow, a 50% loss one month later on a watch possibly sold for 2K- that’s tough.
Feel a bit sorry for him if the motive wasn’t immediate profit, that’ll be a newbie tax allright.

Possibly not marketed as effectively as it could have been but from one POV the market has spoken. I know the 40s/50s bumper chronometers are desirable, especially in rare white gold but it could be argued the earlier sale price was over the top, especially given the unserviced condition.

I was watching that one too. I suppose you could say that it is a connoisseur's watch, but from a design perspective, it is, ahem dare I say it, quite boring to look at.

Whole thing seems a little fishy to me.

Never thought that this was a $2K watch in the first place.

    And I have one.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. Kind of a niche piece. Historical, perhaps. Aesthetically pleasing? Not really... IMO

I was following this one also but was fast asleep when the auction ended... And it was fishy because I saw it was sold here on OF in April for much more. So... WHATS GOING ON HERE!?!

I like that case style and the dial isn't bad. Feel free to dump your boring chronometers off on me. :)

That also means ebay is a better place to buy.

Bit of an (very) embarrassing start to my purchasing on OF. I am definitely not a watch flipper— but I haven’t taken a loss this big, well, ever. But given my circumstances and the rate at which I needed to sell, it is duly expected and no one is at fault except myself. The buyer got a great deal but this lesson doesn’t hurt me very much thankfully.

Maybe time for a little background about myself: ‘apsm’ is actually my full name initials and not random letters (yep an eBay buyer actually asked me this) and I make music under that name on soundcloud (yep lame plug).
Just gradded university and have purchased and sold a dozen or so sub-$500 vintage watches off of eBay over the past 3 years (vintage Hamilton, Seiko, and Omega) with spare change from working part time. My first few attempts were amazing; wore the pieces for a year or so and sold them for decent gains (unexpected really) to ultimately fund my 1995 Speedmaster reduced (my daily and only timepiece).

This particular piece I loved because I personally thought it was attractive with white gold markers and a minimalistic dial layout. Worn on nylon it felt like a special piece— calatrava esque. It wasn’t a good investment but more of a gut feeling and I was hoping to keep it alongside my Speedmaster for many years.

I’ll learn and save and maybe step away from high spending for a while.

    Thanks for reading!

You should have sold it to me (I am not living too far from you) :D
From a collector view, this piece is for hard core vintage collectors who love the beauties of chronometer movements like the 352 inside, not the outside look.
To some, it may look boring but to them it is a special vintage watch to keep.
Gator has one and he shows it off every time he has a chance :p.

Yes I am not a hardcore collector, but owning a chronometer 352 from the 40’s was also a big reason why I purchased.
And next time I make a bad decision I will PM you ::facepalm2:::(

My bid would have been higher if I was'nt asleep... The auction went really slow. One day before ending it was at app EUR 400... Strange
