For a while I've been chasing vintage Speedys and Rolex for myself, based in part on what other people have been lusting after in forums, on Youtube, etc. I think part of this is normal. But recently I have "let myself go" and started going after what I really wanted - midsize watches with light colored faces, to hell what everyone else thinks. And much happier now. And hey they are cheaper too. Happier with more money in the pocket, what's not to like?

Agreed! I always thought one of the keys to enjoying what you collect and wear is not caring what the other guy thinks.

I am not sure what to say besides "Dibs on the two Omegas in the middle"

Nothing wrong with deciding those are what you like. They are all very nice watches.

    Agreed.

Exactly a year ago, I was amassing my war chest for a 5513 (I like the mk3 dials but seems like I could only afford the lesser popular mark dials)

I "let" myself go and went kinda full UG. Indeed for 10-12k usd, I have picked up a polerouter sub, and looking for a proper polerouter. And still consolidating for a compax/tricompax

I suspect that you left out an important word in the title:

That Moment When You Realize What You Really Want Today

Congrats on figuring out what you really want.

I'm wanting to do a double Decades Speedmaster and Seamater Collection. This would be 12 Omega watches that were made between the 1960s and current day from the Seamaster and Speedmaster collections.

The title of this thread is probably one of the major keys to happiness in life. Easier said than done for most of us. ;)

You’re telling me that you aren’t putting some of that saved money towards more watches? You have more restraint than I.

    Very nice assembly!

And of course there is an inspirational poster confirming you have chosen the right path...

    And a not-so-inspirational one if you didn’t...

Well, a few months back I was staring at an Ed White, a 1675, a 1016, a nice chocolate Royal Oak and a Tudor 7016 Blue 'Flake in my watch box. Not the most impressive watches compared to some distinguished members of this forum, but for many these could be considered dream pieces, maybe even end-game pieces. They were recognizable, enviable watches to many. But I realized these did not make me happy. I would rather wear a 3592.50 over the Ed White. The 7016 never matched with anything I wore. The 1675 too hard to set the date, etc etc.

What really suit me were watches that were styled like those I had grown up with - small, white faced watches, black or brown strap. But they did not seem to have the "oomph" that other, instantly recognizable watches did so for a while they did not get wrist time. I must have a nice recognizable watch yes? I was a respectable businessman with trademarks to my name! I also sold watches, so I should project my "good taste"! Yes, but not happy.

The "moment" happened when I took a 2 week trip out of town, and for some reason I chose to bring a Master Control, probably so that I would not have to worry about a Rolex being stolen while going through the x-ray machine. People will probably think the JLC was a dime store watch yes? In those 2 weeks that I wore it exclusively I realized, hey I like this watch! And slowly, I started letting go of the watches I did not enjoy wearing. Its not like they were hard to sell yes? What slowly took over were previously ignored watches that would probably look the same to most people, practically no variety at all. But I liked them! And I started adding more of them. The UN I got a hold of just today. I am happier because I can be true to myself and what I like to wear, yet still have good taste yes?

As a dude with a modestly sized wrist I have found the same to be true. While I do have some of the more "popular" models I have found the modestly sized watches have been the "keepers".
