·Mainly, this is a thank you.
A thank you to OF in general for being what it is and all the awesome contacts and knowledge.
But also, very specifically, a thank you to a few users who made the following picture possible:
I’m a huge fan of rose gold, or to be precise, vintage rose gold. Nowadays, it’s often very pink-ish, while back then it seemed to have a much warmer hue to it. It’s a much less aggressive color, less flashy than yellow gold (just my humble opinion) and my favorite material for my beloved Constellations.
Last year, I believe it was @seekingseaquest who pointed me in the direction of the 2652 hobnail. I wrote a couple words about it here:
https://omegaforums.net/threads/a-l...-rose-gold-2652-hobnail-constellation.139767/
A fantastic addition to the collection, and while I was very happy with it, I did start to wonder if I’d ever find a solid rose gold bracelet to match, as - and I think this is an instance where the word is actually adequate - they’re already uncommon in yellow gold, but full-on rare in red.
Early this year, the fantastic @kaplan , well aware of my desire to find a RG 7077 flatlink, sent me a link of one on offer in Japan. It came with a watch I didn’t want to keep, but that made someone else happy and sure enough, against all odds I found myself with the desired combination.
Only, there was a small downside: The bracelet came with 4 of the double-stretch links, one fewer than original. It fits my wrist, but only just. In winter, it was comfortable, but in warmer weather not so much. I wouldn’t complain and still enjoyed it immensely, even though, during summer, I never really wore it. But let’s face it, finding a spare double-stretch link in rose gold is pretty much impossible. Or is it. More on that in a second.
Anyway. Recently, @Aludic , who I’ve grown into the habit of visiting a certain watch fair together, messaged me from the event while I was lying at home ill. He had found a rose gold 2799, the deluxe reference of the 2782. A watch that’s right up my alley and also not exactly easy to find. He bought it, drooled around with it for a bit, but then kindly passed it on to me. We both agreed it might feel a little lonely among the Speedies of his. 😁
Since then I’ve been joking about needing a second rose gold flatlink. “Need” is a difficult word in combination with our hobby, of course, but it was rather an ironic comment, well aware how hard these are to find but how easily one came to me lucky bugger.
Yeah, well. On Wednesday evening, another message by @kaplan came through WhatsApp. I just saw the preview on my phone: “RG flatlink in Germany” and a link. About 2 seconds later, I had my phone unlocked. About 2 minutes later, it was clear it was legit. The next morning, I gave the seller a call. The next day, I drove halfway across the country, had a lovely chat with him who, tragically, admitted to having been scrapping a couple of YG examples for scrap value, but who had luckily kept the RG one. So now, I’m walking around the apartment smiling with one on each wrist. 😉
And here comes the bonus: As I said, 5 double stretch links are factory standard. Yet the second one comes with 6 of them… Which means I can now wear them both whenever I want, summer or winter, and enjoy the hell out of them.
Without the acquaintance of the aforementioned fellow OF users, the only thing of the above pictures in my possession would be my desk. Hence this thread, and also to share my excitement a little, of course. 😀 So thanks to everybody involved here, owners and users! Also, last but not least, a warm thanks to the firm #1 on the dibs list for the bracelet, @cristos71 , who was a great help in assessing some of those pieces.
Cheers everyone. I’ll finish with two more pictures:
