Hi there, I've just started to look at tri-compaxes and I'm still learning how to spot redials. I have only been looking at watches for a few months. Am I right to say that the 6 o clock subdial has been redialed as the font is a lot thicker than the rest of the subdials? Disclaimer: this isn't my photo. Just grabbed it of the internet. No ill intentions.
A similar dial was discussed in this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/universal-geneve-tri-compax.8364/ The quality of the printing suggests that this dial is original. However, it may not be correct for this case style.
It looks a little odd but i wouldn't say it is a redial. spacing is perfect. far too difficult to do a partial on dials like that. I would say close to impossible. I will go for a genuine dial.
I would also go with original, although it does look like the dial was knocked around for quite some time. Could have been laying around in a parts box and reused.
OP, I see your point about the inking on the hour subdial, but I doubt it was selectively redialed. For one, that is a pretty uncommon practice. For two, the wear is about even with the rest of the dial. I think the whole deal is original
Alright thanks for the replies guys. Guess I've still got a long way to go. So the 6 o clock subdial's font is intentional by UG? Sorry I don't have a Sala. It is quite a bit of money. Haha
What about this dial? 1) The 8 on the hour looks a little smudged. 2) The examples I've seen on the internet had their 7 and 5 o clock closer to the 6 o clock subdial or even cut by it whereas this example doesn't. Also, the font of 5 and 7 seems a tad off. 3) The 3 in the 6 o clock subdial has a rounded bottom. I have seen 3 in this font but never on the same dial with this 3 o clock subdial type. Most of the 3's I've seen tends to be flat bottom. Are my observations wrong? This time round, I'm actually interested in this watch. That's why I'm scrutinizing it a little harder.
Clear redial. The outer minute track and hour counter are very poorly done, not to mention the hour markers.
Redial. Not good. Beyond the printing details, just appreciate how featureless the dial is - entirely devoid of texture. Very heavy handed redial.
I believe this is a Farfo listing. If you scroll down to the information and details you will see that the dealer acknowledges it is a redial.
