Tell me about this orange second hand

I remember someone commenting that it was a rare hand. All the hands (and dial) are from a mk2 Racing as you can see.
I’m just sending it off for a hand swap to normal minute and hour hands, with black centres.
Then I’ll decide what to do with it, if anything.

I would keep the watch as it is now.
The dial/hands combo is nice like that.

Thanks, I’ve had it like that for a while.
Fancy a change.
Second sweep hand? I think it was @speedmaster101 who brought it up.

Hideous! Send it to me and I’ll dispose of it properly for you. I’ll even pay for the shipping as I am that kind.

Fresh hands on an old patina dial will not look good. You will then want to relume the dial and get a fresh bezel. At that point, you should have just sought out a clean/crisp original example and sold tbe old watch.

Just auction the watch for a billion dollars instead of risking anything on it?

It's a nice choice of colours for the hands. If you fancy a change how about a different strap?

That hour register hand looks partially painted with the same paint as the chronograph hand under question. So that alone brings the chronograph hand under question … as such I would just leave it. It fits the watch 👍

Those hands look to have been “touched up” to me.

The hour hand looks original to me, just with a rusted post and foot. But the minute counter hand looks repainted. I bet that was replaced at some point (maybe it was even more rusted) and someone used a standard white hand painted orange.

This is what I believe is called ‘the hour register hand’ as it’s the register that counts hours. And it is two different colors…the second of which being the same orange as the seconds and minute chronograph hands…which also look painted (edit : unless the were orange and this particular hand was partially painted red)

Well.
As usual I have obeyed the forum instructions to the letter.

Not.

Here it is, back from James Hyman.
I asked him to try to blott out the mk11 script as well, he didn’t really want to do it but I twisted his arm.
Overall the dial and hands are amazing, as he predicted the mk 11 removal less so, but I’m sure it’ll be far more successful to the eye rather than the camera.
It’s just a custom dial for my own enjoyment.
Comments are welcome.
I am prepared.

You should have had him Tipp-Ex 'Meister' or better still 'Tiffany' over the top of the MkII text 😉

I quite like it, it's a tidy job and looks much better than before and as you say, if you get enjoyment from it, who is to tell you its not great. I'd wear that happily.

@watchlovr have you replaced the dial also? I'm asking as the Omega logo is much brighter than the faded one on the first photo?
The overall new look is pretty nice. Especially because of having original hands instead of the previously (I believe) painted ones.

Very nice as is. I love this handset because its so legible. It's similar to what I have on my Geneve models but with an upgraded seconds hand with the luminous diamond. Is this the handset know a Ultramann?

Same dial. He overpainted the logo too. His skills are astounding.
Edit Btw, all of the hands are freshly painted.
