For example, let's start with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMEGA-SPEED...t2FO9kpWpqIwn%2Fh9p3s%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I didn't bid on this but it was what seemed a pretty good example of a watch I would have maybe bid on. I am guessing the lack of the original band isn't great. The caseback seemed like it might have been polished to death. Are the bezel and face in pretty typical condition for a 40+ years old watch? I assume some people replace them with OEM parts, often? Was the end price around $2k pretty typical? Should the mouvement # match the caseback # ?

I know but little, the experts will likely comment in due course but I thought the hands looked newer than the dial / case and the case had seen some polishing, and the price was about fair for both buyer and seller.

There is a speedie 861 on sale here in the forum that is likely to be more original than that one

there is also this site from the late Chuck Maddox that is a great resource - http://chronomaddox.com/

    step 1: go to http://omegaforums.net/forums/watches-for-sale/
step 2: find a nice speedmaster
    step 3: pay the person!

but seriously, there are some speedies for sale there, if you aren't particularly fussed about year/calibre/model/ etc.

If you want something more specific, especially a cal 321, or a pre-moon, or anything like that, spend lots of time on the chuck maddox website that shaun mentioned, so you can identify condition, originality, etc
