I served under this honorable man. I hope his family finds consolation in this time of grief.

 

A good businessman and career public servant. While you may not agree with everything he did you still have to respect him. And I do. Also had the highest and one of the lowest approval rates ever all in a single term.

The first time in my life I voted for President of the United States, I voted for George H. W. Bush.

He was a hero to me when I was a teenager.

 

Navy said what we sailors say to our departed. Fair winds and following seas Mr President. (I’ve said it a few too many times of late) This was a great man. Didn’t always agree with him but his decency and class shined through. A true patriot.

 

I admire how he always spoke of his wife Barbara, and how he raised his children to become great public servants too. Great family man. Rest in peace President Bush.

Thanks for post @Mad Dog only a military guy uses taps and for a particular reason. I knew what this meant, having first heard “taps” so long ago in the Great Lakes area (‘nuf said).

Say what you need to say, you are a grown man, and your opinion is yours. No need to link articles or quote another man to support your position. We could all do this ad naseum. You are an adult, share your thoughts. Abide by what the moderators of this fine forum have established and your good.

I did not like many of President Bush’s policies. Millions of Americans did, millions didn’t. Regardless, he was the President of the most powerful country on the planet (easily at the time), he was a good husband and a good father. What he accomplished makes most of our lives look paltry in comparison. This is the reason you see people saying what they are. It’s decorum. God speed Mr President.

Good, God. This thread was about remembering a man admired and respected by many Americans and others around the world. A man who also happened to be a President. I don't give a flying f*** if you have issues with his presidency. His impact as a man extended far beyond those 4 years.

One can disagree with his politics, some of his decisions and still admire the man. That certainly is the case for me. Most of these posts are celebrating a life of service to this nation, decency and humanity as is apppropriate when someone of his stature dies.
