    Decided after some more reading to try Alcohol before Acetone. I used 70% and microfiber towels. All these were patent leather shiny and are now satin. I used my Hirsch satin blue alligator as a reference. I had to bring the black HODINKEE strap back with some neutral shoe polish.

    does the leather feel now a bit softer too? I’m not a fan of shiny/glossy straps either ...

    Yes ... softer. The strap on the Longines was expensive and the Dink strap wasn’t cheap, so I did this with some trepidation but happy with the results.
