I purchased this stainless steel Marvin Flying Dutchman off the Bay back at the beginning of September. The pictures were poor but I thought the dial and case looked good. No movement shot but these don't come up too often in steel and the price was right. Also these Flying Dutchman have one of the few automatic movements actually made by Marvin. Here are some of the pictures from the listing... I took a picture of the movement before sending it off to my watchmaker, this has the cal. 580C... The movement looked dirty but OK...it ended up needing a few parts and a new crystal (knew this going in) but nothing too expensive! This watch had been with my watchmaker until today. And I am very pleased with the outcome... Not very good lighting on this dreary day in Chicago but the pictures show enough. Cool thing about the cross hairs on the dial is that they are etched into the dial with the dial metal showing through, very cool how the light plays off of this!
Actually bought my first Marvin Automatic today. I hope it at least has a little in common with your new found beauty! (sellers pic).
No Clue! It came as a part of a five watches lot. I will have some more on it in a weeks time. From the case style (I have a shot of the rear as well) I assume it is a late 40s/early 50s design? 35mm dia wo crown.
Beautiful piece! Really love the dial! Do you know why its called the Flying Dutchman? Would be interested to know a bit more about this model/brand...
Yep , I saw this baby on Craig's List for $78.50. The picture was rather poor, but what the hey. Turns out all it needed was a good waxing and some air put in the tires.
Looks great! It's always nice to buy a minter but there is something at least as satisfying about bringing one back to its former glory with a little TLC
Thanks Chris, and +1 on that! Andy you're right a big kudos goes to my watchmaker...after all he did all the work.
