First photo: Oh, that isn't so bad. Maybe I might even...wait: "The TAG Heuer Connected is a 46 mm watch..." Aaaaand there it is. (Though probably not out of the normal range of smartwatch sizes?). The trade offer for a mechanical Carrera is an interesting idea, but I'd want either an 1887 or Heuer-01 chronograph for my combined $3k rather than one of TAG's 3-hand Carrera "Depreciation Specials." I still may stop by the TAG place on 5th Ave just to take a look at it and the similarly gross Carrera Hublot-01... I mean Heuer-01. I know that as a millennial with disposable income, I'm supposed to immediately drool all over this but I'm not into it. I am a bad millennial
Added links to the Calibre11 threads in the original post, quite a few people discussing it, C11 is a sister site to OF, so same login and user accounts work on both
that is prob. tbe single most important argument for me (and prob. for many friends of vintage watches) al
The plan to offer a mechanical Carrera for an additional $1500 after two years seems to alleviate the obsolescence issue. Whether or not you want that 3-hand Carrera is another issue...
the question is: do I want one for 1.5k additional ... isnt that kindalike " buy the new ford explorer for 30k and get another one for 30k extra" ... not too much of a hook (at least for me) cheers,
Well, not necessarily - you're effectively getting a new Carrera for $3k (1500 for Connected, + 1500 for Carrera in 2yrs). I'm not sure what the cheapest TAG 3-hand Carrera runs these days but I'd bet it's probably around $3500 so it's up to you to decide whether it's worth it. Having personally experienced the massive depreciation on modern TAG chronographs, I'd shudder to think of what might occur with a 3-hander, so for me - it's not. But for many people, I think it's actually a great opportunity to welcome a few new people into the fold of mechanical watch enthusiasts. Baby steps
