Tag Heuer 1000 mods

I recently saw a basket case of a Tag Heuer 1000 here locally. In researching it I found that there are people modding them into fantasy builds. I thought that that seemed like a fun idea so I picked it up.

The watch was a 980.613B from the mid-80’s. This reference is a blue dial and bezel watch but the actual watch had a black, earlier Heuer dial and black bezel. I decided to mod it into a GMT and swap the mineral crystal for a sapphire. I was originally going to try to relume the dial but I chickened out. I may do that in the future as I don’t care for the greenish hue. So anyway, that is why the hands are more of a creamy white color.

GMT bezel (faded it too)
Hand relume (including NOS GMT hand from 90’s)
New sapphire crystal
New crown
Quartz GMT movement

Yeah, because I may relume the dial later. Didn’t wanna go with greenish lume hands. If you look at vintage ones, there is usually a similar mismatch in hands vs dial.
