Wow-- look at those lugs! Thanks @Larry S for posting it, real eye candy!! And the dial texture is really nice indeed, but the logo print is really sloppy-- looks like a bad redial to me, unfortunately.
Not a shop that would sell a bad re-dial, they have a pretty solid reputation as a vintage retailer and for restoration of clocks and watches but given how common it was to redial watches in the past you never know. Might be a bad picture too.
No doubt but it's pretty elaborate. Where would a dial like this origiate? Who would make this? Just curious,
Probably a facsimile of the original. My initial thought is the watch would look awfully good if you were driving this car: They came from the same era for sure. gatorcpa
Well they are a restoration shop and a very good one ... Guess they should have been more up front about how much work was done. Love that Chrysler!
I I've seen a lot of redialed watches with great texture-- but bad dial print. If anything the texture makes it more difficult to reprint on top and the quality of the print is even more of a give away than on a regular dial. So I have to conclude the redialers get no credit for the texture and that it is stamped into the metallic base of the dial.
Are you kidding me, Father time in Chicago is known for selling redialed dribble. Please, I know you like this shop but don't recommend a watch from them unless you are absolutely sure!
Spot on. http://fathertimeantiques.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=892:longines-oversize&Itemid=141 http://fathertimeantiques.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1025:blank-template&Itemid=141
Did NOT recommend just posted an interesting watch especially the case. And yes I do like their repair service despite the premium. I've never heard any accusations to that effect except just now.
Ok ok I'll take my lumps here. So what gives these away as redial? To me they look too clean. Printing?
Font/lines too fat. Subdial printing a bit uneven. They are not really bad redials, just very bad not to inform a potential buyer about the negative influence on the value of the watch. There are people who likes this restored look, free from patina and other age related defects, but not many around on this forum.
Black waffle. You can see that they managed quite well the job of printing on textured surfaces back in the days. This one came straight from the factory like this (sorry it's not a Longines ):
