Guys...i have a modern SMP300c....how big of a deal is it to swim in the ocean with it? will it ruin the various stainless finishes? I'm heading to Cuba tonight and hate the idea of leaving it in my safe all day only to take it out for dinner.

I've worn mine in the ocean, lakes, pools, ponds you name it and just rinsed it off afterwards, it is after all a dive watch;) ...

Still looks good and operates as it should.

It's a watch designed for wearing whilst diving. As long as you have kept up the servicing schedule and wash it when you come out of the salt water it will be more than fine. If it hasn't been serviced and it is beyond the recommended service time then you only have yourself to blame. It's like a car. You wouldn't buy a car and run it until it broke without servicing it then complain.

Have worn dive watches from several brands and all spectrum of the price scale and never had a issue with any.

Take years in the salt water to ruin that bad boys finishes:cool:

To add to this thread - can people share their experiences wearing PO's or SMPs into chlorinated pools? Not so much water resistance, but do you find the chlorine to cause any corrosiion or appearance of rust on either the case, bezel, or bracelet?

    cheers,
    Mark

I've briefly worn my SMP GMT in a pool with the kids with no such issues.

The Seamaster Pro and Planet Ocean are built incredibly tough, you have nothing to fear at all.

I'd worry about hungry sharks, lethal jellyfish, and even angry otters before I had a concern for a dive watch being used for only a fraction of it's capabilities.

Yeah, and magpies & crows do too - so don't walk in the woods with your Explorer.

Ive been happily scuba diving off key largo in the middle of a large school of barracuda - and i did slip a hand over my shiny dive computer. Ive never felt tempted to do the same to mitigate a magpie/crow feeding frenzy - am i needlessy risking my speedmasters and constellations???

Certainly a lot riskier than swimming with a PO.

I agree, you will not have any problems if the servicing is up to date. And chlorine in a pool has never affected any of my watches-always rinse them after a swim and they are good! You may want to be more concerned about some of the locals who eye the watch! Enjoy your holiday!
