I showed my wife - she loves them! Although she is disturbed that there is a sun one- the sun isn’t a planet…she’s a stickler for details like that,

I like the watches, so I buy them. I don’t buy every watch Omega makes, because I don’t like all of them. For example, I’m not a huge fan of the Aqua Terra but their production does not affect my enjoyment of the Speedmaster. I don’t understand the issue. Buy what you like and ignore what you dont.

Initially I didn't like the idea but after a good night's sleep I feel it's not bad at all. They'll be sold in tonnes. Omega will get a future customer. Swatch will make money. Buyers will have choice to start with. These will become iconic in ten years after Swatch ceases production. All will win. This is how world moves nowadays.

Hmmmm it's also not plastic. It's bioceramic according to the helpful write-up. Also I don't see a problem with it. Nice entry level and heck it gets people of a younger generation interested in the lineage of the Speedmaster.
Plastic, bio plastics, bio ceramic, the water is sold for £200. Maybe we will have a plastic biodegradable ceramic Rolex Submariner soon. Rolex must be laughing their ass off right about now.

Why did we spend thousands of pounds on an Omega, so they put the name on a plastic Swatch watch?

I wonder what they are smoking in Omega headquarters?

To be perfectly honest, if you spent thousands of dollars to wear an Omega and look down on Swatch fans, jokes on you and you are probably "invested" in the wrong brand.

You bought a watch though, not a brand name. If your only means of enjoying it is ensuring that other people cannot possibly have it, you’re really doing it wrong as having something to hold over people you feel better than isn’t what watch collecting is all about.

I'd add that you might be in a wrong hobby and also at a wrong place!

I would think quite the opposite- this is brilliant and fun and clever and slightly cheeky- the antithesis of Rolex…and Rolex doesn’t have the balls to do something like this.
This doesn’t weaken the Speedmaster line, it only strengthens it by showing the company thinks inclusively- not exclusively.

Are you worried your Omega wasn’t a good investment?
Here's my idea.
It's not about the investment perspective.
The whole idea of collaboration is nice. A Swatch with a Moonwatch DNA. Much like the Fiat Ferrari Tributo. Fiat with Ferrari DNA.
What Ferrari did right with that collab is that they didn't put the Ferrari prancing horse logo right on the front center and rear badge. They only put Ferrari Tributo on the sides and small rear emblem. It's playful, it's clear that it's a Fiat. But has Ferrari DNA.

Now here's the problem.
This Omega x Swatch release has Omega branding more prominent than the Swatch. It says Omega x Swatch on the dial. To me a logo symbolizes much more than a brand. Omega logo should only be placed right and center on items of high quality and luxury, synchronous with the image that Omega represents. Whatever it'd be, Omega pens, Omega glasses, Omega hats, Omega watch cases. They should all be on par with the luxury/quality that the brand symbolizes. Logos are sacred.

They should've just put Moonswatch on the dial. No Omega, No Speedmaster. People already know it has Moonwatch DNA. They could put Omega x Swatch on the caseback. That's a way more classy execution.

Couldn't agree more.

I don’t look down on anyone I wear my g shock regular and post on WRUW, I wear my DeVille regular and post on WRUW. My sub lives in the safe not a good idea to wear in London anymore. If I want a plastic bio what ever the smokescreen is I go and buy a Swatch, I don’t expect to buy a Swatch and have Omega on the dial.

You have a valid point. I agree here with you.

So this particular collab is not for you. How does this matter in relation to you previously spending thousands on your Omega watches?

This $60 quartz watch with a cheap gold plated case is an authentic Omega DeVille, just like your current DeVille.

I would argue this MoonSwatch is a much better piece overall

I’ll believe the “thinks inclusively “ part as long as I can get my hands on one. Their current distribution plan, however…

Dude. My Sub from 2017 I got at retail is an investment and lives in a bank safe, My Omega DeVille is a daily watch I wear because I like it, it is not an investment and one of the least desirable investment watches you can buy. In fact it is a guarantee to loose money on it.

That the thing- they have to make it accessible. They used to have a Swatch store in Union Station in DC before the pandemic, I walked by it every day. It’s not listed on their website so I fear they went out (like 70% of the stores in that station). Dulles is the closest one on a concourse. May have to buy a $500 ticket to JFK and back to buy a $270 watch
