I suppose all the manufacturers in Switzerland will have to start paying Apple for using Sapphire crystal on their watches. Oh and Samsung will have to start paying too.
iPhones just went up $30 to cover the cost. On the positive side, you can now have your watch serviced and your iPhone screen replaced by your watchmaker.
On the plus side, your screen won't break. On the downside, your phone and screen and assorted techno trash will stick around on this planet from now until eternity.
Well, since Apple invented sapphire and holds the intellectual property rights to it, those other companies absolutely should have to pay royalties. Why should they get a free ride?!?!!
Apple invented time too, didn't they? I guess they are going to sue the earth for amount of time used since year 1. How dare we use time without paying Apple!
I was like that once 7 or 8 years ago. You've missed out on Angry Birds, Candy Crush, and a whole slew of fad games man!
Hell, I just learned to retrieve my voice-mail. Besides, golf and poker are good enough games for me ;-)
My first GSM phone.... No Candy Crush on that one back in 1992! Come to think of it coverage was not all that great either. In todays money I could have bought at least two iPhone5 64Gb for what that weapon cost. "Just happy to see me, or is that a Motorola you got in your pocket honey?" Yeah, I know the joke is on me! I still got it stacked in one of my workshop drawers.... Just to see the face of todays kids when they see the size of it (the phone that is)!
Corundum (sapphire, ruby, etc.) has been manufactured for over 100 years mate - Apple did not invent this.
...and there was me thinking that sapphire glass was just a polished man-made crystal that dates back to before Steve Jobs was even an itch in his Dad's short - but, of course, Apple did invent everything from the atom to the universe.
I used to work for a Cellular One in Atlantic County so I know that phone well. We each had one - mine was grey. They replaced the Transportapack Panasonics that could go from your trunk to your carry pack by sliding the transceiver in and out of it's mount.
I hope so, but with some people Apple is a religion, so you never know... Some jewels made in the watchmaking school in Glashütte back when apple was just something they used in strudel...
I knew sapphire glass is extremely scratch resistant, however I did not know it was at that caliber. Amazing.
So a good while back I had a tiny flipphone. It was so small I lost it on an international flight and didn't notice it go. The last three phones I have had have had 3.7, 4, and 6 inch screens respectively. I feel a bit of an idiot making calls on the new one (which is a discrete fluorescent yellow - work phone, I didn't choose it) but everything else is easier/better on a bigger screen. I wonder where I will top out?
