A fellow was at my leather shop today and gave me a rare « what’s on your wrist? »

A usually uncomfortable question to get in public but I refer to my shop as the « Weapons room ». Baseball bats, hammers, lots of sharp blades. (Thanks to @STANDY) So I showed him my watch.

He did not offer to show me his. After a few minutes, I said: « since you asked, what are you wearing? ».

He was quick to tell me that he was wearing a « Super Clone ».

Not sure I had ever heard that term but I knew what he meant.

I asked if I could get a photo.

I know very little about modern Tudors. Sure looked real. I know that Pelagos are Titanium and the fellow confirmed that his was also made of that lightweight stuff.

Kind of supports the saying here on OF that buying the seller is a good policy.

Have you knowingly encountered any of these Super Clones?

And be careful out there.

I knew a guy who was into them he would get the “best” clone available. For him it was Rolex. Seemed convincing but I’d be easily fooled anyway.
I’m seeing a lot of vintage reps now they even throw in gen parts make it more real. Seems to be done at the hobby level but they are sold and who knows the intent of the buyer.

superclone 😀

There’s just one more thing…

This is what the real one looks like.

Columbo, like Kojak, was a great show.

Imagine spending top-tier-fake money on a TUDOR clone! If you're gonna buy a fake, at least make it something that isn't almost the cost of a real one...

I have a friend who only collects Chinese microbrands that are essentially replicas with a different name on the dial. He’s also occasionally picked up one of these super clones nd showed them to me - quite scary how good they look until you start playing with the bezel or the crown. That’s where you can usually tell it isn’t real.

"Microbrand Chinese". Laughable. They are pumping out millions.
