I know Hirsch straps are a favorite among us and I am already considering two. But what I want to know is if there is another brand or brands I should look at. The only requirment is the strap must be waterproof alligator or alligator print leather in black. Any suggestions?

There is no such thing as waterproof alligator. But it can be made more reliable with rubberized calf lining.

I recommend ABP Paris or Camille Fournet. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Have you looked at Toshi Straps in London? A beautiful range of leathers, but waterproofing does not appear an option.

I will check all of those. Thanks gents! Question: some leather straps are rates to 100M. What exactly does that mean?

Panerai made waterproof leather straps for the originals. I seem to recall beeswax was used to waterproof the straps.

Some Hirsch and Roma's were advertised as waterproof.

I think I found the possible winner's. I like what both have to offer, but there can be only one(for now).

I personally prefer ABP. Great communication and more options.

I feel the same as far as options go. A true bespoke product, which I like.

    Hi Spy,

I think for what you are looking for in being both waterproof and having an alligator print finish the Hirsch performance straps which you are most probably already looking at are going to be hard to beat especially around that price point. But if in your search you do find something else that compares well please let the rest of us know on the forum.

That is what I started out asking for, but Alex_TA suggested two Parisian strap makers and now I cannot make up my mind. Because my 2254 is waterproof I wanted a leather strap that was the same because I read Panerai had waterproofed their leather straps for the originals.

There is a Hirsch I am looking at that fits my want, but now two other strap makers have popped up and they are stealing the spot light. If anyone would like to advance me $500 so I can have both straps and end this thread just send me a PM.

P.S. No refunds if you give me the $500. :D

From my experience there is no such a thing as waterproof leather strap. Depends what sort of waterproofing we talk. If general wear in rain then fine but diving never would be possible. Any thought by some other members

I have experience with both, which are very good but pricey. IMHO, Banda is the best for the bucks.

There are indeed some straps that are really waterproof the Kodiack straps linked by Spy in the post below yours and also some of the Anonimo watch straps are also tested to be waterproof and by waterproof I mean they are tested to I believe its 100m depth and sustained immersion in salt water again I think it's up to 12hrs. The only problems with both of these IMHO is the cost but if your willing to pay the price it is possible and you do get what you pay for.
