Hi There, I took a few Omega watches for repaid at a local jewelry and run into a vintage Speedmaster that I have been flirting with for some time. The watch has been sitting unused for quite some time and needs to be serviced and, potentially, some restoration. I was wondering if any of you could give me an ideal of what is a fair price to pay for a 1965 Speedmaster (ST105003-65) on this condition. I would greatly appreciate any insight from this forum. Thank you, Alex Vidal .
A lot. In all seriousness, I'd want some better pics if the dial to check it over, as well as the movement. But the bezel and case look good. Check out speedmaster101.net
Thank you Davidt and oddboy for the quick reply. The suggested price on speedmaster101.net for a running 105.003-65 is $6200, yet this watch does not have a bracelet and needs service, thus trying to get a sense of what would be a fair price.
Read the notes on the page and all will become clear. Read also the assessment guide for the reference.
None of the prices include bracelet. 'Running' watches are also assumed to need a service. If your dial checks out I would place this example above running.
I agree definitely above running and I wouldn't be afraid of saying good, prooven movement is coherent and in good state. Although the pictures are quite blurry it seems a honest example. I like it a lot.
That is a find. I'd grab it. It has a decent case, a beautiful dial, correct hands, a very very nice DON bezel. The patina on the plots is just beautiful. Oh, by the way, the crown is original. Whenever I acquire a vintage piece I have my watchmaker do a service. I'd bet you could get more than $6200 for the bezel and dial alone!
I'd say fair value would be around $15-17k. So anything less than $13-14k would be a great deal. That crystal will polish up nicely.
Assuming the serial number is in range of course. That might be low. Bezel is very very good. Dial is Correct narrow T, hands are correct and surprising white. I don't think I'm missing anything here. Case looks decent from low quality pictures.
You got all your old 321s at a great time, think how much it would cost you to buy the same watches right now. Now I know for a fact I'll never own a 321 speedy, especially a straight lug model.
That's almost true, but not quite. You will just have to dig harder to get one. A few times a year there is a thread about finding a vintage speedy at a yard sale, in a box of old seemingly worthless watches and parts in an antique store, at Goodwill, etc.
Never say never... would it have to be a straight lug 321? I know they are beautiful and worth a lot more, but I sometimes feel they are a little bit plain compared to an unpolished asymmetric case Speedmaster. A 105.012-65 with double bevel case back, those lovely lyre lugs and those cute bumpy bits that protect the crown and pushers??? A 105.012 or a 145.012 is a less expensive, more attainable option and actually went to the Moon. They are out there and you only need to find one of em!
I must be seriously out of touch, I hadn't looked at Speedmaster 101 for a while and see now it was updated in April, but still? I have seen some of the silly prices being asked on eBay and Chrono24 but assumed they were never attained. Some of you will have seen my Ed in other threads, owned from new, boxes, papers, just serviced by STS. Last summer I was wearing it while breaking out concrete in the garden, until I decided to get it serviced and came across the forum. I still wear it a few days a week and thought it was worth around £8/9k do l have to lock it away? My view is that it is a watch to be used and worn. As l've said before it is an heirloom piece and not for sale! The piece shown by the OP does look to be a nice watch, subject to the caveats already mentioned. It would be interesting to know the outcome.
