As the title sugests I know nothing so can you tell me is Calibre 671 what I call pure automatic with no reserve wind on the crown or does it hand wind?
Also what is meant by adjusted 1 position or 2 positions?
Thanks for your patience, Cheers, Brian

I think the Cal 671 is a ladies calibre that may have been used in some compact or odd-shaped mens watches, Dennis could probably help more, being better versed in men wearing ladies watches.

    and ladies clothes.

Occasionally stockings but only when its cold.

If it worked for Joe Namath, it can work for other guys. :D

Yes, the 671 was a smaller automatic. You can hand wind it to my knowledge, but because the movement is small the reserve is short. It's a function of the size of the mainspring, and large springs don't fit.

Thanks both of you for the info. About the watch not Dennis and his secret habits!
What about the 1 position 2 position question? Don't ask Dennis!

Actually the 670, 17-jewel and 671, 24-jewel movements were used in quite a number of men's dress watches as well as the Seamaster DE VILLE mid-size, ref 165.004, etc. these were only 31.5-mm. Power-reserve really wasn't that bad 36-40 hours and yes, they can be hand wound.

Just managed to get online after problems with last provider--- BT! followed by a quick mini-stroke, probably brought by BT stress. However everything now ok probably helped by you guys providing the laughter. Thanks for that and the info about the 670.
Now for the next stupid question. I was told on the forum that I should expect a manual fully wound geneve to run for about 50 hours. Would this apply to most manual watches, in particular a De Ville 111.0165 Cal 625? I fear the one I am currently looking at has problems by running only 39 hours. Would this probably be caused by having a previously broken mainspring shortened during repair rather than being replaced? If so would it be expensive to correct/replace/repair?

If your mainspring was shortened it would effect performance.

Is the Cal 625 one of those smaller movements for compact mens watches and ladies watches? The full size calibres IIRC are all about 50 hours but the compact ones are a bit shorter from memory

    Hi There,
I was hoping one of you guys would be able to tell me this. This De Ville is quite a slim watch with a 28mm x 28mm dial.
For various reasons the present owner doesn't want to remove the back cover but has a receipt quoting the Cal625 Etc.
    Cheers Brian

Here we go, it is a lower power reserve, 42 hours (when brand new and lubricated) its a 17.5mm wide movement which is on the skinny side, so everything is a bit smaller, including the mainspring and barrel.

Thanks dsio, That's what I needed to know. I'll take this one home tomorrow with a bit of luck. This one eventually for my younger son, the Jaegar Le Coultre for the oldest. Not yet though, they can stay with me for a couple more decades.
    Cheers Brian
