That watch deserves a nice expensive Italian leather or crocodile black strap, not a two stitch fluffy thing you have it on........;)

Sorry but I realized that and should have asked this question in a different thread.

    Hi Guys

Ok came across my last Zenith 135.... I had three complete watches and lose movement.... ( a 36 mm case steel screwback , a 34 mm steel snapnack and the one I still have....

I love the pink gold markers and it is a Captain case at 36.4 mm and its a screwback case !!! Largest waterresistance case made for the 135

My collection won’t be complete until I find a 135. First run preferably

Wow, they are really beautiful. Even the regulator is a thing of beauty.

Would they have been a competitor of the 30L? I believe that they would have been contemporaneous.

The 135 was introduced in 1948, so it predated the 30L by ~8 years. With that said, the movements did overlap in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.

To my mind, there were 4 great chronometer handwinders in this era:

    Longines 30L
    Zenith 135
    Omega 30T (and it’s derivatives)
    Movado 126

Longines was late to this party, introducing their 30mm movement in 1956. With that said, by the late 1950’s, at the height of the Observatory Chronometer challenges, these 4 movements were in fierce competition. IMHO, they represent the high water mark of widely produced hand wound movements, before the widespread adoption of automatic movements and the subsequent onset of the quartz crisis.

I realize that I left out the IWC 89, which also belongs in this category, but because IWC chose not to compete in the Observatory trials it doesn’t fit as well in the narrative.

Well, now that the auction is over, I guess it’s safe to post this. I fell asleep, and missed the bidding (because I’m an idiot). Once this emerges, I think I’m going to be kicking myself quite badly, although I do have some questions about the condition of the dial.

This is a 135 chronometer with a double signed dial retailed by H Lamb in West Hartlepool.

It hammered at £1k + fees. I was the underbidder unfortunately.

Did you happen to see it in person? Or were you doing off the online photos as well?

I got a couple of pics from the auction house, the same ones you got I think judging by the reflections in the crystal in your pic, but they wouldn't open it. It wound and ran but stopped very quickly, apparently.

If the discoloration on the left side of the dial isn’t too terrible, somebody got a hell of a deal. Hard to tell though.

Really irritated with myself that I fell asleep. Was prepared to go probably 50% above that hammer price. C’est la vie, on to the next.
