    Well, they are not...

Like I said, like comparing apples to oranges.
The new modern case is completely different. Look at the shape of the lugs. More like a CB case.

You've got to be careful comparing pics such as this though. I'm not saying the case are the same, but the angle of the photo makes a use difference to the perceived size of various edges.

Huh?? You don't even need two eyes to see that the cases are completely different regardless of what picture and what angle...
The XI-45 case is clearly different and it is shaped closer to the old CB Speedy cases.

Ridiculous price! For that you should get a good condition DON and 1039 bracelet. I have a much better 69 on ebay (without a DON) for much lower yet hardly any interest.

Ooookkkk... how about an actual unpolished 145.022-69 then?

    IMG_2465.JPG

Serial number is even similar, 309x. Ask me how I know it's unpolished ::bleh::

Nice, but was it used as a practice target in a BB gun range? ::bleh::

So as I said in my comment, I'm not disagreeing that these two cases may be different, but you can't just use two random shots to compare two very similar cases, as the angle can distort things.

I know it might be difficult, but look again (closely) at the shape of these lugs (circled). This is no camera angle my friend.

They are completely different shape = different case = comparing a modern case to a vintage one and assuming the vintage has been polished based on said comparison is :whipped:

    Looks pretty similar to me.
Take another pic with the brushed side directly facing the camera (like the eBay watch)

    Coulda been!

Well, it looks like the strap is obscuring the edge of the lug - if you compare the left lug (which is clearly photographed) and the right lug of the watch in question (which is also clearly photographed, as the left lug is obscured by the bracelet in that photo) you'll see they're fairly similar. The 45 is sharper though cause it hasn't been polished, while the -69 has

Here you go, there's a pretty well-defined dent just to the right of center, where on the eBay watch it's polished up to a peak

Are you trying to be patronising?

I've said, twice now, that I'm not referring to the bloody picture of the XI and the -69. I'm making the point that you need to compare two cases at the same angles to be sure you're comparing like for like as the nature of the lyre lug cases mean pictures from slightly different angles can make it seem like there is a difference in case profile, when there actually may not be.

    Sorry, but you're wrong.
They are clearly & completely different cases...

I've actually seen this kind of thing before - I came across one with a parts lot that I ended up selling instead of trying to fix myself, it was similarly polished though much more severely.

Is it not possible that the watch came like that from the Onega factory? How perfect was the case finishing in the 60s?

    Very possible.
    Cases were finished by hand.

It's the same as the old debate in the vintage Rolex world about the un-even crown guards on many subs which collectors deemed as being "Badly and unevenly polished" until someone dug up this image from a Rolex catalog from 1974...

In any event. If you look at the eBay watch in question, the angles, corners and edges of the lugs (bottoms too) all seem super sharp. (at least to me, but again twat dew I know...)

This is a pointless and non resolvable argument with separated photos.
    Lets move along here.

You would think we are a bunch of lawyers and barristers...or have no lives...

Either way, I love to see these prices...makes me feel pretty good about my pull ::bleh::
