Strap recommendation

Hi,

Recently found a geneve in my grandfather's things (he passed in 2014). Hoping to get it serviced once i find a local watchmaker. If anyone has any experiences/recommendations in the Orlando area i would greatly appreciate it.

In regards to the strap, i am at a loss as what would best pair with this type of style. Most of my current collection are modern pieces and the straos are too chunky for this. I happened to have one 18mm strap lying around, which is what is currently on the piece.

What style do you think would work best? Any reccomendations on where to buy?

Thanks!
Shane

Congratulations on your find, a nice one to remember your Grandfather by. I think a rally style strap would suit that watch, apologies, no recommendation as I'm the other side of the pond, unless Watchgeko are in the US, I use their UK online store and find them really good.

the dial has a dynamic style. have you thought of a black NATO with a red border?
otherwise a crocodile or ostrich bracelet would suit him very well. look here, I have already bought, it does the job very well (you can try asking for a discount)

I was also thinking a rally strap would look good. I’ve ordered from Watchgecko here in the US and their deliver is about as fast as a US company and they do offer nice straps. But lots of US dealers offer similar rally straps — Barton comes to mind.

These are cool. Do you think the burgundy is too bold?

Or red with black stitching.

Here are some options I would consider, but I think you never can tell until you get the strap on the watch.

This is a fun and lovely watch to remember your grand father by.
Because this is a vintage watch, ie not as thick and heavy as many modern watches, and so most modern straps will look and feel overpowering, IMHO many of the examples above are too padded or too thick, ot the leather doesn’t have the quality of texture required for a nice vintage watch.

You need a flat strap made of high quality leather, like for example this one which is for sale here (no connection to the seller)

A racing strap would indeed be nice, but then how about something like these which you can commission in black or red with contrast stitching:

Cool watch and a great heirloom. It’ll look stunning once the crystal is replaced.

I have the Di-Modell Rallye strap above on one of my vintage Dugenas:

It’s quite a brash strap and for yours I actually think something more subtle is best. I have a black perforated strap on my 176.007 made by Abel Court which feels far more vintage and that would chime in with @Syrte's comments above (and she knows a thing or two about pairing straps to vintage watches).

The one above is 22mm (tapering down to 16mm in true 1970s style) but Abel does do custom. May be worth reaching out to him (I found him on Instagram after he was recommended here) if this is something you like.

Update:
First and foremost, thank you everyone for the great ideas and guidance. I really liked the ideas of the rally strap and in corporating the red into the strap. Unfortunately, i could not find a rally strap with red stitching that suited my fancy, so the indecisive person that i am ended up buying two straps!

The first strap, i went with a rally style and white stitching. The much more conservative of the two.

The second, i wanted to incorporate the red. I went with a "black cherry" lizard strap. Its a little more red than what was pictured online and also much more shiny than i was expecting, but it has grown on me.

Would love to hear which one you all prefer. My wife prefers the black rally.

Thanks again,
Shane

Both look great and you can't go wrong with either choice. That said, I prefer the black cherry lizard!

What we think doesn’t matter, now that you have founf straps you like that’s the only thing that counts.
