Strap lifespan

Those rubber straps of Omega's--how long do they last for you? I always thought that those kinds of straps dry out and split. Rubber deteriorates
But on a watch costing thousands, this clearly can't be the case. Right?

The general consensus I've seen is 2 to 3 years depending on what you put it through.
I'm sure there are people that get 5 who mostly desk dive.
I believe Omega quote 2 years if you ask them.

Well, the Diver 300M 43.5 comes only on a rubber and maybe nato strap. Doesn't come with a steel bracelet. What? Youv'e gotta pay hundreds every 2 or 3 years to replace the strap?
Sounds outlandish.

I guess they figure if you’re spending that amount on a ceramic watch when your smart phone tells you the time, then you don’t care about the price of a new rubber strap every few years. 😀

You can always wear the watch on a third-party strap. It doesn’t void the warranty.

It has an unconventional lug/strap width. I wonder if that is in actuality a problem. I have no experience. Not a deal breaker?
Thanks.

Think these are 21mm lug. This is not the most common but there are 3rd party straps available to buy

If this is your only watch then this may be the case. Suggest you buy many more watches and rotate them. Straps last a lot longer that way 👍

My local AD wanted to charge me $600 USD plus tax for the OEM rubber strap (20mm for SMPc) and buckle. He went on to say that, “They’re cutting into our margins and expect us to do all of the work.” I can sympathize but I ended up sourcing the strap/buckle from somebody else. Hopefully, I can get 3-4 years out of the strap. . . If not, most likely I’ll just go back to the bracelet. The rubber straps are much lighter and are really comfortable though.

Leather straps don't necessarily last much longer than that either. Anything other than metal seems to be a 2-3 year lifespan if worn daily. Just consider them as wear parts like tires and brake pads on your car.
