My first watch that I bought myself was a 1988 Omega Seamaster Quartz (can a quartz movement be vintage?). It still performs, but does not get much wrist time. I found a service manual http://watch-fanatic.com/omega-caliber-1430/ - the last paragraph recommends the stem to be pulled out fully to time adjusting position for "storage". Should I do this every time I put the watch back in the drawer? I wear it once per 2 weeks approx.
A racket is colloquial English for a loud noise or if google translate is working: en høj støj Hummers whine at 300Hz and it is quite noticeable at night. Accutron hummers are at 360Hz so are slightly higher pitched but just as loud.
Thanks. I should have figured that out with the hummer. I guess they must drain batteries fast making all that noise!
They get through a Renata 344 cell in about 12-18 months so not too bad but not like the 5-7 years that the tiny cells used in in quartz watches can last.
Note that depending on the movement, it may not help to save battery life - might actually lower it. Depends if the motor is switched off or if it simply blocks the train.
You may be right, but @efauser 's advice matches Omega's recommendations (at least for my quartz watch).
I like the noise. So much so that I like to place one on a chest of drawers that amplified the hummmmmmmmmmmm. Soothing. That, or plonk a f2.4 Megaquartz in its place and go to sleep to the noise of rifle shots 60 times a minute. A tremendous horological experience, imho.
