    Hello all,

Apologies in advance for my first post being a request for help rather than a contribution to a discussion!

My beautiful 1968 Seamaster 300 was stolen in London last week (details below). Is there a central database for such things? It's a reasonably rare watch so may end up being offered to specialist dealers. Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Movement - 26456155
    Calibre - 565
    Case - 166.024

Sorry to hear about your loss. All of theses posts seem to find their way into the WWW and come up in searches. I would relist your movement number as 26456155. State the Watch reference number in different permutations

    166.024
    166024

Might have year as well in inner caseback. Perhaps 166.024-67 ?.

As far as rarity, yours appears to have modern service parts added. Bezel, Dial, Hands. A vintage dealer probably won’t be interested. Might pop on eBay however

    Good luck finding it

Sorry to hear about this @Poocherama, I’m sure many of us based in the U.K. will keep a look out for your watch too.

Can you share the modus operandi of the thief please? So we can be alert against something similar happening to us.

    Thank you

    Nathan

Pure opportunism I'm afraid. I was attacked on my doorstep whilst having a cigarette! Three guys jumped out of a car, one wielding a hammer, asked for my watch and after a brief struggle ripped it off my wrist, left half the strap on the pavement!

I don't think they did care, they had no idea what I was wearing, they were betting it would be a Rolex, I think they would have been disappointed!

You are lucky to have not been seriously hurt. IDK the 1st thing about crime, but I am guessing these thugs will probably just try to sell it at a pawn shop/on Ebay really quickly.

Try monitoring ‘Gumtree’ too………shed loads of dodgy items seem to be funnelled through there…seems to be below the radar for most people

WOW...scary stuff. I guess you have to be aware of your surroundings. I bet they target smokers becuase smokers are not going to run inside quickly because they need to finish their cigarette. I bet you were in a nice neighborhood or business district.

I second the gumtree point, you would be suprised how stupid these people are. Saying that there is not much you can do if you see it unless you want to go vigilante, police seem to have bigger fish to fry.

That's a terrible tale. I think it would be important to get a police report that states the serial number etc... otherwise you have no recourse even if it does resurface.

Sorry to hear about the theft, especially when it took place in my home town. I'd like to say that I hope the police catch the villains but I realise that there is very little chance of that happening. A sad indictment of our society.

Always report it, a friend of mine was mugged for his Rolex GMT in Costa Coffee when trying to sell it. A few days later the Police arrested the guy driving around, and found his GMT under the drivers seat. He's got the watch back now! Sorry to hear this has happened to you, and good luck.

That is horrible! What were the circumstances of the robbery? I don't know how it works in London, but in the U.S. the information would be circulated to local pawn shops since that is the most likely destination if this was a random mugging. Also, unfortunately unless this was part of a bigger overarching crime or a serious gang of criminals police rarely spend much time investigating such things so you are pretty much on your own. Was it insured?
