    Hi,

I had a Rolex Explorer 1016 stolen in a burglary from my mother's house in South London last night. She's fine, but the watch wasn't insured. The serial number is 5846672, movement serial 866042, bracelet number 78360-VC/580 from 1978. If anyone comes across it, could they contact me or the police.

    many thanks

    Tim

Glad your family is ok, but I hate to hear about the watch. If I see it out there for sale I'll be sure to report it.

Glad the family is okay -- would suggest contacting @stolenwatch on instagram too so it can be posted there.

    Sorry for your loss.
Register the watch on The Watch Register.Link " https://www.thewatchregister.com"
If it ever shows up on the net or in for repairs ,it should show up.

So your family works hard for decades and buys something that means a lot to them, probably meant for generations and some idiot just snaps that stuff up in minutes. It’s such a shame how we treat each sometimes

I've read that Rolex keeps a Data Base of stolen watch Serial Numbers. Contact them in case it shows up there for a service.

Many thanks for this — have now registered with Rolex, the watch register and #stol3nwatches on instagram. The chances of recovery are probably slim to none, but one lives in hope

Nothing so far. Depressingly when I was putting it on The Watch Register, they said they had 70,000 watches listed. Not sure how many of them are stolen, but I’d guess a fair proportion.

And I’m told the UK police doesn’t investigate burglaries unless someone gets hurt....

Keeping my fingers crossed. I have known pawn brokers here in the states that have gotten stolen merchandise in, and done the right thing and they have been returned to the family and criminals caught....it happens

The main hope of eventual recovery lies in the serial number. It's strange to me that a big auction house like ebay does not require serial numbers on listings. In fact, sellers often blank them out in photos. It seems like aiding and abetting to me.
