Unfortunately, not mine, and the owner is not parting with it.

Sorry but you can only dibs a members watch unless you know the owner personally.
At this point Bob is probably the only one that can dibs, although you might claim first right to join the investment corporation Bob forms to afford and purchase the watch. :D

Too true. I'd probably need a remortgage to be sole owner anyway.

That is simply beautiful; can't blame the owner for not parting with it!

I do understand you are saying this mostly in jest, but despite that...I don't know if this will make any sense whatsoever, especially coming from a collector, but I will give this point a try, hoping someone else either understands, or has experienced it themselves: sometimes when you know someone well, and really like and respect them, you don't even want to ask or offer. In some ways, for a reason I am having difficulty putting my finger on, it would seem to dilute the friendship. In truth, I am much happier that he has this great piece than I would be if I got it from him. My suspicion is that all deals, no matter how friendly, have some adversarial component to them, and occasionally one wants to avoid this completely.

I really appreciate that sentiment. "Visitation rights" with your friend is just as fun as actually owning it yourself, sometimes. At the very least, it creates one more reason for frequent drinks with your friend!

    Understand this
but surely no harm in asking if you can be given the opportunity to make an offer if he ever finds himself in the position of considering a sale?

I think I'd prefer the possible short term discomfort than potentially learning it had been moved on a few minutes too late.

I love when the lollipop chrono hand lines up directly between the lume dots at 12. It looks like a mud covered old school alarm clock or Mickey Mouse with Down Syndrome.

Hence why the new CK2998 has the unofficial nick name of "miCKy". :)

I concur. That is one of the most attractive Speedmasters I've seen. There is something special about the 2998 ref.
