Interesting: a Newman Daytona that’s not a Newman Daytona...

Very curious what the estimates will be on both of these watches. The catalogue is not yet available. Both watches in very good condition and it appears that the Daytona was worn regularly. Celebrity watches, watch auctions and the hammer prices...fascinating.

If paying $18mill for Paul Newman's Daytona was ever smart, now a 2nd one is out, it might be looking a bit less so and if more "unique" trophy watches still lurk around the Newman/Woodward family these Daytona's might end up nearly as common as the Ultraman.

It will be interesting to see where the market values these and whether the McQueen realises more or less than the Newman, particularly if the McQueen has strong provenance.

Maybe, like the ‘prolific Speedmaster hoarders’ of this forum, Paul Newman was a ‘Prolific Paul-Newman Daytona hoarder’...

If I had bought the first one, I'd want to get this one as well...

The press release for Paul Newman's 6263 only offers an estimate "in excess of one million dollars." The Monaco is upon request. I emailed Phillips for the hell of it but haven't heard back yet.

No, a Newman Daytona is traditionally denoted by a particular dial style; this does not have that. So it is a Newman Daytona that’s not a Newman Daytona.

    So...

mom not up on the history but I’d assume if you can verify it’s the watch from that shot in Lemans it’s gotta be in the top 3 most expensive watches of all time. Well either 2nd or 3rd as number one if it still exists and could ever be sold would easily take the record.

That is an interesting website with loads of Rolex info and trivia but I find the author often "fills in the blanks" in some of his articles. He points out in many photos that the watch pictured is the same watch mounted on a different bracelet which is of course plausible but not known fact. Most of these celebrities had drawers full of watches and could easily have had multiple examples on different bracelets. I have also seen Paul Newman in person wearing a modern two-tone Daytona so chances are the guy had loads of watches to choose from depending on his mood.

Would surely have to be the highest price paid for a Heuer to date.
I believe there were 6 Monaco’s in total on set for Le Mans, along with Heuer Autavias, Carreras etc. Given McQueens wish to be dressed in a racing suit exactly like that of Jo Siffert, I am surprised he did not pick himself a 1163 “Siffert” Autavia.
Not sure that anyone has been able to prove definitively which of the 6 Monacos McQueen actually wore. As these were merely “props” cleverly supplied by Heuer, there would be a strong chance they were handed back in at the end of a day’s filming. I very much doubt the props department would worry if he got issued a different Monaco some days, they look the same, so he may have had them all on his wrist at some point, or he may not.
Great watch, great story, great marketing but, given there are 6 watches vying for the nomination, the huge premium over a run of the mill Monaco 1133B seems a little hard to justify, to me anyway.
