It’s only one episode so far but I’m really liking it, Captain Pike was really well cast and fit so well in the second season of Discovery, and the aim of creating a modern yet authentic feeling modern TOS has started off quite well.

Even if you’re not a fan of Discovery, I’d strongly recommend giving SNW a try as it’s much more old school in its approach and has a very different feel to it.

I think Omega missed an opportunity to get a Speedmaster Pro 125th anniversary of first contact limited edition on Pikes wrist but maybe for season 2 😀

You have to pay for Paramount Plus, I believe. The new Cpt Pike showed up in one of the other new Star Treks, and I saw it during a free trial. I agree, Anson Mount was a great choice. Can I do another free trial?

I’ve got it through Prime Video on some deal in Australia but it varies from country to country. Apparently there are several more Star Treks in the making too including one focusing on Section 31, and another on the academy.

Haven’t watched it yet, but have the first episode recorded. Really liked Anson Mount in Discovery, and also in another series he’s been in (Hell on wheels).

It used to be his avatar for the longest time, Cpt. Archer did go around the galaxy apologizing to people and making friends, so while he supposedly came from New York he acted more Canadian.

Have you seen “Piccard”? It looked pretty good. I wasn’t much of a treky until I got Netflix and watched the entire original series then the one with Jean Luc Piccard. Now they have a series where he returns out of retirement. The one episode I saw looked interesting. It’s just these damn streaming services. You pay, then you pay extra to add extra programming it gets crazy. Perhaps it’ll be out on DVD at some point although DVD’s have now become old fashioned.

I hate that I have to buy a subscription to Paramount Plus just to watch a single show.

I did not like Discovery, I just couldn't get into it at all. Maybe it's better now that they've traveled to the future.

I thought Picard was just okay.

I'm going to wait a bit for SNW but once they have a couple more episodes out I'll probably start watching it.

Yes, that avatar was courtesy of the squirrel...

I’ve watched both Picard and Discovery every episode so far. Picard just wrapped up the season this week. I’ve enjoyed them both, generally.

Neither are traditional Star Trek, since there is a season long story arc, so if you miss one you get behind. SNW is a return to the traditional format, so new story every week, and although I likely won’t miss any episodes, it’s nice to know that if I do, I won’t be wondering what the heck is going on.

Yup I feel the same it’s just overkill. I have three streaming services though one is included on my phone (doesn’t mean it free) so I’m going to cancel either Netflix or Amazon. Just trying to decide which. Netflix last earnings report and those “bad numbers” giving the stock a 75% drop was pretty intense. I don’t think that speaks just to Netflix (although it no doubt it’s a direct impact) but more on streaming as a whole. Too saturated? Cost? Content? The return to “normal.”? I’m not sure as I hear too many opinions.
Back on topic, I sure would like some more Star Trek movies made soon as I really enjoyed what they were doing with them.

That’s good to know. I’m in the US so I’ll set my VPN to AU and see if it works on Prime.

Pretty excited for this. I thought Capt. Pike was one of the brighter spots on Discovery (which I mostly enjoyed).

I think you just pointed out why I didn't enjoy Discovery and Picard so much. They had a narrative and story to tell so every episode furthered that story. I look forward to a more traditional Star Trek. Couldn't pick out what bothered me but that may be it!

My friends don't agree, but I thought Discovery was pretty bad the first three seasons, and whose moronic idea was it to reboot the Klingons?

I'm a fan of TOS. Watched it when it originally aired. I thought this was an excellent addition. (Anson Mount is one of my favorites.)
