SS or Gold Plated

Hello fellow watch lovers. 😎

A new disappointment to me. My watchmaker is working on this Seamaster 600 and I was ready to send the case to Replate but by checking the hands and the inside of the back plate I think that the watch was originally Stainless Steel and someone plated it in gold …

What do you think?

It should be possible to reverse plate it.

Yes. I was thinking on that... But, do you think that originally was SS?

I very much doubt Omega would ever have electroplated a steel case. That is an aftermarket job in my opinion.

Oook, and now the last question, please... How do you know that this is electroplate?

As opposed to???
I suppose as opposed to chemical plating. But, tu be honest, I don't know how omega gold plating those watches...
Gold Filled and Gold Cap mean heat and pressure. But Gold Plated. No idea. And thats why I ask how "Canuch" realize that was electroplasted.

You said you thought it had been plated with gold. The choices are: rolled gold plate, gold filled, electroplated, PVD (physical vapour deposition), CVD (chemical vapour deposition), gold shell. The appearance of the case indicates to me it is gold electroplated. Why do I say that? Experience! There isn’t room in this message board for me to give you a short course in all these methods of plating. Doubt me if you wish, but you called it PLATING which means gold anodizing.

l bought a very good condition TC 1 many years ago on ebay that l still wear on occasions which was advertised as being 80 micron white gold filled. It is supposedly one of the first made, without the Omega name on the crystal- only the logo.
It is engraved with the logo and ‘80’ on the back, but looks suspiciously similar in colour to the SS band.
Was/ is there such a thing as 80 micron SS plating?
Did the white gold models look similar in colour to the SS bands?
Cheers.

Only the watch case is white gold plated. The bracelet is stainless steel.

Yes, apparently so, but is there such thing as 80 micron SS plating? Just a bit suspicious...
Also, how does $US 1200 sound for a nice Seamaster 120 with skeleton hands?

Hello, I don't usually participate in this forum anymore, but it seems correct to me close this POST with the last update.

In December 2019, I asked for your help and opinion regarding re-gold plating the case of this watch. Fortunately and with the kind opinions of Canuck, X350 XJR and others I realized that the original piece was not gold plated, and I decided to return it to its original color.
A pandemic later, today I received my watch from my watchmaker and this is the result. I am happy, I have recovered a watch made in 1964 and I love it.

Thank you for your help and I share with you the following images. Good day to all.
