opinions sought on whether this dial shows any evidence of refinishing.

Also, can any dating be gathered by the numerals stamped ?

Only pic so far from my watchmaker.

Just emailed him for some front shots.

away traveling not at my PC where original shots are stored.

Just learning these dial back signs, why need the front shots?

It is a black dial, pie pan, cal 505, WG large arrowheads.

The front is how this question is answered 99% of the time.

I was reading throu a ton of posts on how the redialers are getting so good, I figured no one could erase tell tale signs on the back.

Not for vintage omegas. The level of expertise here is such that for vintage omegas, redials can be identified 99.9% of the time when viewed from the front. And the back can be tricky for many reasons and even glue obviously applied to 1 or 2 areas could just mean a loose marker was reattached.

Is it gold?. If not those scratched areas (if old) should have tarnished...It it is bronze or brass those sanded areas are recent...

What the back tell us is that the rivetted applied markers and logo have not been removed or removed and re-tapped. This is one check in the assessment process of a dial, usually a later one after dial inspection proves inconclusive.

In most redials, the markers are removed when the dial is repainted and then glued back. I have seen a few instances where the markers have been cold soldered. Both instances are a good sign of a redial.

So what we see is an encouraging sign. But as Mike said, a glance at the dial will confirm the good news.

    Cheers

    Desmond

image.jpeg Well, I'll have to wait till I can take a few shots of the front when it gets to my house. My watchmakers skill at photos could be better. The reflections and hands covered up important fonts, ect. By the time I received pix, it was boxed and posted.

Love pristine screw heads on 60 year old watches.

You can see the blur in the case back picture, but should be able to tell that no watchmaker marks were found and the rotor had not been rubbing.

We'll have to make due with these

    image.jpeg

Dontcha love factory butlering and embossed stars with lots of definition! The "Constellation " and "Waterproof " are well represented just not in these pictures.::facepalm1::

    Nifty 10 sided crown, too.

He was under strict orders(and it is a Standing Order) not to polish, just clean case.

1958 via case back and serial number.....1,608x,xxx

I believe the dial will pass muster here, but it and I will be home about the same day and I will post my pictures and get your opinion then.:)
