I've gained a whole new appreciation for the potential nastiness of seemingly innocent, furry creatures.

I had a run-in with a raccoon three months ago that resulted in 10 days in the hospital, three weeks of home convalescence on supplemental oxygen, and over $150k in medical bills. Beware of the furry cuteness!

I would never call a raccoon "cute". When they show up to scavenge, the stray cats scatter.

    Very nasty creatures.

It's funny that you brought that up about stray cats and raccoons. What happened to me was the direct result of a raccoon fighting with feral cats for food left out by some idiot (for the cats). I showed up about 15 minutes after the cat+raccoon fight, with my two dogs at the end of a walk. The still-pissed-off raccoon made a bee-line for my right leg and bit it several times, then bit the back of my leg in the course of a second attack. The attack precipitated an improbable medical catastrophe from which I'm still recovering.

This gives me a flashback to my youth. I was in college with the famous saying: "Hold my beer. Watch this possum play dead".

Yep , as much as I respect squirrels, Racoons are definitely more fearsome.

Many, many years ago, probably approaching 20, in the comic strip ZITS, there was a series of comics that dealt with squirreling. I always remembered that as being hilarious. When my grandson was three, we took a fishing pole, tied on a pine cone slathered in peanut butter, two chairs and went squirreling in the side yard. The squirrels would come out of the trees, pick up the pine cone and the tug of war would commence. My friend’s only comment was that it was a shame the kid didn’t drink beer. I would laugh until tears came down my cheeks. Most fun you can have and still have your clothes on.

It occurs to me that some of the new members may not fully appreciate the importance of squirrels to this forum. It has been some time since we had a squirrel-related thread.

Fast ball, belt high, right over the middle of the plate.

I'm happy that someone hit it out.

I knew a guy a long time ago who was a real squirrel. He was just like the kind that keeps running back and forth in front of your car. He could never make up his mind. If he did, he would change it the next day. Cost him a bloody fortune. Had a business that he wanted to sell. Signed a couple of agreements to sell it and then backed out. Wound up having to give it away when the market turned. Many other examples. Is this the type of squirrel you are referring to?

Highly evocative, but no. Search "Golden Squirrel of Distraction" to see what we mean. It's responsible for my avatar, and ulack's, and a few others.
