Good morning OF,

Wondering what type of spring bars do you use on your gold watches? Are you afraid of steel eating into the softer gold?

Cheers,
Mike

Just be sure the tips are the correct size for the holes and steel is just fine.

When you think about it soft spring bars would be about as effective as a fart in a cyclone

Omega used solid gold springbars on both 1948 Centenary models. My Ref. 2499 came with these.

If you look closely, you can see them here. I took them off, mainly because I wasn’t comfortable with 75 year old springbars holding the band in place. The steel ones work just fine, and they don’t need to be the expensive ones from Omega either.

I just bought this from a member. It’s an IWC cal 89.( 18k rose gold). It came on steel spring bars and new generic straps in the sale. While back referencing the watch ( because it changed hands in the forum before) I found that it had at one point had matching rose gold spring bars.

I contacted the awesome seller and he said he don’t remember if it came to him that way. He was kind enough to search through his stuff to check.
I was not sure if it’s solid gold or plated. But I thought they may be original to watch as they match the watch rather perfectly.
Sure enough he found the spring bars and took the effort to ship to me separately.
Here they are

Any cal 89 owners or experts know what they are made of?

Take them to a jeweler to be tested. Only way to know. I’ve never seen an IWC ad that mentioned gold springbars.
