Spring bars for 2254.50

Hi everyone -

New member here and first post. I recently picked up a 2254.50 and it is at my local watchmaker getting a spa treatment. I noticed that it was probably the most difficult spring bar removal I have ever experienced when trying to remove the bracelet. I usually change straps and bracelets almost every day, so I have 1000s of changes under my belt, but this one took well over an hour.

When I extracted it, I compressed it and checked the length with my digital calipers. It was 20mm compressed. So to get it out, I needed both ends fully compressed at the same time and removing the bracelet all in one motion. I didn't have a tweezer-type spring bar tool and this was quite challenging.

The question I have is, is this spring bar original to the watch? It is a 2000 model FWIW. I get that the tighter the fit, the more secure it is, but the tolerances on this one just seemed a little too intense. I have since picked up a tweezer-style tool, but as I mentioned, the watch is with the watchmaker and I haven't been able to try it.

Can someone tell me the correct spring bar or spring bar size I should be using if this isn't correct?

Thanks very much... and here is a pic of it on my wrist:

A 20mm spring bar is indeed 20mm. I have never been able to remove a bracelet with fitted end links from a watch by manipulating a single end of the spring bar, including my 2254.50. Push in one end, tension on the end link, then push in the other end and voilà! Bracelet removed. Loose end links and straight ends are easier.

All my 20mm spring bars are a touch under 20mm when fully compressed... likewise my 22mm are a touch under 22mm.

The correct spring bar in Omega part number 068ST2207. This is the length when fully compressed:

I guess 0.22mm goes a lot farther than I expected.

Yep. Huge difference. I remove bracelets as you suggest... but it isn't possible if the smallest it can condense to is 20mm. They both have to be pushed in all the way simultaneously... and then removed without releasing any pressure. Not easy at all.

Well, all I use are Marathon or Omega springbars, Scurfa on Scurfa and Seiko on Seiko and I do not experience the difficulty you have communicated here. You used digital calipers to measure your spring bars; do you have a micrometer that you can use to obtain a proper precision measurement?

Nope. That's is good as I've got.

Could just order a few 20mm Omega springbars and call it good. Then you.know what you have.
