This has been driving me crazy, so I bought a bunch of spring bars and measured them. Turns out that lugs 17mm and up will take spring bars that are 3mm longer. Lugs from 8mm--16mm (rare, I know) use spring bars that are 2mm longer end-to-end. Thus if I have a spring bar that measures 23mm end-to-end, it will fit 20mm lugs. This is handy (for me, anyway) because there are different ways you can measure them----first or second shoulder, fat part in the middle, etc. This removes the guesswork. Here's a table for reference: End-to-End Length----------------Will Fit xx Lugs 10---------------------------------------------8 11---------------------------------------------9 12---------------------------------------------10 13---------------------------------------------11 14---------------------------------------------12 15---------------------------------------------13 16---------------------------------------------14 17 --------------------------------------------15 18---------------------------------------------16 ---- 20---------------------------------------------17 21---------------------------------------------18 22---------------------------------------------19 23---------------------------------------------20 24---------------------------------------------21 25---------------------------------------------22 26---------------------------------------------23 27---------------------------------------------24 28---------------------------------------------25
Are these measurements for flanged springbars or shoulderless? What about curved? And female? If you're going to be obsessive, do it right man!
