It's not a limited edition in the strictest sense, it is made in fairly limited numbers but the number is not limited. I agree that it is a pretty unique edition in the manual wind Speedmaster line.
Oh I see Evitzee gave essentially the same reply whilst I was writing mine. Certainly the A8 is very special... the only thing that’s holding me back is a doubt about its legibility.

What about the ST2 Ultraman? Adrian from ‘Barking’ Jack actually preferred that over the ST1 in one of his recent YouTube reviews...
I mentioned this in the other thread, I don't see any harm in Omega catering to their collectors base with limited editions. Obviously there is demand and it is quite lucrative take a standard speedmaster customize it and sell at a premium. and if people dont like it they can help themselves to the standard moonwatch which is always available. Thank you for this article, I dont think I was aware of those alaska models, I really love the look of alaska 3. I've been trying to find a chart with a the speedmaster limited editions, it'll help us keep track and probably also spot some trends.
I recall seeing a poster of Speedmasters over a 60 year period with LE's but obviously not up to date anymore.
I have the 1989 US apollo XI. I like it a lot, looks like a regular speedmaster and has nice colouring on the lume plots. Would have bought the Alaska if it was not so expensive. I like its quirkiness but when prices were reasonable there were other watches I wanted more.
I had the same reservations about legibility before spending some time with the watch. I tried it on for a good 30 minutes and realized that the highly polished hands stand out against the dial. If you look at the watch straight, only the lume (white part) of the hands will stand out. It may be hard to read. But when it is on the wrist, most of us don't look at our watches straight. When the dial is not parallel to your eyes, the hands shine. I find it very easy to read. It is similar to the SS Apollo 11 50th - the moonshine gold pops as you move the dial away from a plane that's parallel to your eyes.

Funny as I remember you couldn’t give the white Alaska II away for years and then boom. They doubled in price in less than a year.. @Robert-Jan But the best part of the article is the point that who cares how many LEs they make, you just pick the ones that appeal to you (Another great Fratello article)
