Hi guys, I just posted this Speedmaster ACP on my blog Fratellowatches. There wasnt much info from the guys in Bienne, except that it was probably a very early 105.012. However, the dial says Professional. My guess is that they used a Speedmaster Professional with an older caseback (-63) and movement (s/n from 1963) and a newer (> 1965) dial. There are more cases known where Omega started using older and newer parts for the same watch in those days. However, the dial lacks the tritium t's besides Swiss Made. If anyone has more info or insights in this one, I would be more than happy to learn. The blog post can be read here: www.speedytuesday.com RJ
according to my infos this watch was delivered the Peruvian Autoclub "Automovil Club Peruano" (http://www.acpperu.net/ ) in 1963.
Thanks, so that makes sense with regards to the case number and movement s/n. The dial with 'Professional' remains a mystery.
.. and the asymmetrical case at that time although it is said that on special wish of NASA this case was introduced somewhere in the mid 60ies (what I do believe is a marketing storry) and the missing tritium sign on the dial
The first 105.012 is from 1963? After the first NASA tests I believe. I don't know.. it would be a marketing story if OMEGA came up with it, now it is by some guy from NASA.
Wow! That's a beauty! I saw it this evening via a link (on WUS) to an Italian forum, but couldn't read the Italian text in the article.
Well, the case with the short pushers is definitely the 105.012 case and the movements of this A.C.P.. models do all carry a 20.xxx.xxx and were delivered in 1963 Maybe NASA just loves the idea to have influenced the shape of a later icon, and NASA deserves it of course, as they made the speedy what it is to us. Yesss this ACP from Italy is stunning
Interesting, so they also have been delivered after 1963. But 1964 still doesn't make 'Professional' sense Still a lot to figure out with some of the Speedies. RJ
We had this discussion a few months back about "Professional" being on dials before 1965. MIke and a couple others said that it showed up on certain references as early as 1963 from what I remember. I had always thought it was only put on the dial after NASA certified Speedmasters through tests.
Thought maybe someone is interested to add this to his collection as it is quite rare.... Just found this in italy: http://www.kijiji.it/annunci/orolog...rofessional-del-1963-rarissimo-a-c-p/92036812 As far as I can tell wrong second Hand, no lume on hour and minute Hand and sadly wrong bezel. But the rest looks quite nice to me. I have to put some money into my other hobby before the season starts sadly otherwise i may had picked this one up myself.
Yes also dial is damaged at Swiss made section and although movement number looks ok is the clutch bridge not wrong? Not sure if this is a part changed with servicing?
Hey guys, A couple of days ago I took my speedy to a local watch smith to have an orange chrono hand installed. I've always been a huge fan of the orange chronograph hand. My first chrono was a Fortis B-42 that came with a bright orange hand and I have always felt like it was a great contrast. I kept the original hand in the event I feel like swapping it back. What do you guys think?
