A bit of pre-Baselworld 2014 news on this Speedy Tuesday! Although Omega already gave a few hints on their official Facebook page not too long ago (and enthusiasts immediately guessed it right), today came the announcement of the new Speedmaster Mark II re-edition that Omega plans to introduce during Baselworld 2014. We are looking forward to it! As you can see, the new Speedmaster Mark II comes in two flavors, one with a racing dial and one with a white luminous dial. Just like the two versions that were introduced in 1969. In essence, the Mark II was a newer […]

Lovely. To my eyes it looks much more appealing than the new '57.

Wonder if the cal 3300 will make it very tall though ?

What do you think of the price? $6250 USD? Real collectors/purists probably go for the original Mark II which can be had for 1/3 - 1/4 of that price in good condition. Aimed at 'new buyers'-only?

The biggest selling point for me is the bracelet, its like a modern version of the old school Mk2 bracelet, love the look of it thats just badass.

Sadly you are right. Unlike Speedy Fois which represents a vintage 2 times the price, or ploprof and bullhead which at least at similar price range, Mark2 could be had in very good condition vintage for fraction of new price. The movement of the vintage is also one of the most reliable and serviceable around.
So I would guess it will not attract purists too much. The positive thing probably vintage mark2 price might increase due to marketing exposure.

In £stg that's £3800, which is the same price point as the recent Speedy Apollo LE. A good Mk II Racing dial can be had for £1500 (ignoring any servicing costs).

But overall I think its an ok price if you're in the market for a regular wearer which allows you to keep the vintage ones safe from harm. I'm not sure if comparing prices to the FOIS is a good idea, because vintage cal 321 prices are a lot higher than vintage cal 861 prices.

It's the 14.85mm height that I'd be more wary of than the price.

I like it a lot and think that's a fairly reasonable price as far as new Omegas go. 👍

We've talked about that before; a watch pool of several dozen watches that moderators can "sign/check out" for extended periods. I've already signed up for the Zeitwerk.😁

ETA 7750 based watches don't tend to be thin!
