After reading the thread about Speedy Tuesday dial problems
I had a careful look at the dial and noticed 3 incredible typo errors... 40 20 and 10 are upside down.
    Anybody noticed that too?

The funny thing is that the numbers aren't symmetrical :

    R:20 is like L:40
R:10 is upside down to L:20

    Why? ::screwloose::

I guess so. I think it’s a cool quirk. Can you imagine the grin on their face when they decided to print a mistake on purpose?

Odd! Both my Speedmasters have the sundial numerals placed right side up.

Like it or dislike it, it was originally designed that way for some reason and the new watch faithfully stays true to the original design as noted by RJ in another article here.

"People made remarks about some of the numerals being positioned upside down opposed to what’s normally done on the Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday limited edition, but as you can see it is 100% based on the original drawing. The 1972 Alaska Project II watch you see above, does not have these ‘upside downs’. It seems that the 1972 drawing was used for the 1978 Alaska Project III watch, see below."

An even cooler "Speedmaster nerd" callout detail IMO - yes, it could have been printed just like the Seamasters, but instead they printed it like the Space Shuttle prototypes.

Maybe the thought process was that after it passes the midway point the numerals face a certain way.... But that still does not explain the 10 on the right subdial

Shuttle pilots have confided in me that this dial made flying the shuttle twice as hard.;)

This is so cool. So it's not a factory error. But I would still like to know why the numbers are oriented this way.

This was well announced and described in advance. Doesn't anyone pay attention any more. ::facepalm2::

It was based on studies of how people visualize and read radial images

This was produced and delivered to NASA as an order of 50 black dialed watches.

And yes, I too almost spit out my coffee.

I mean this in the most respectful way when I ask, where does Omega or a Speedy Tuesday article reference the study on how people read radial dials explaining why it was produced in the manner it was?

I'm curious, that if the study concluded that this was the most effective pattern why was it not continued on the 20 in the seconds sub dial or in the hours totalizer sub dial?

You don't need to worry about asking anything you wish . I could not tell you where I read it, perhaps Fratellow, perhaps somewhere else. I don't keep a NASA/Omega archive, so it is hard to speculate. I might have been told it, or even dreamed it . I am sure someone must know.

As to why it was not continued, no idea. Maybe end users (astronauts) did not like it :D

Actually makes sense visualize the 10 and or 40 flipped. It looks wrong. At least for the 10. Keep in mind 10 is unique as it has no vertical visual cues the other numbers do.

No idea where, but I read/saw/dreamt that too.

Probably not 'dreamt' actually but you get my drift.
