After Omega showed us the BaselWorld 2018 novelties that you’ve all seen by now, it was time for them to bring out the big guns and show three very exclusive Speedmaster Moonphase watches. In platinum.Weighing about half a kilogram each, these new platinum Speedmaster Moonphase models are not for the faint-hearted. For this week’s Speedy […] Visit Speedy Tuesday – Three New Platinum Speedmaster Moonphase Watches to read the full article.
I'm weeping a little over the mismatched times, dates and moon phase settings. OK, I'll admit it. I'm sobbing.
They look nice and I think they are relatively well executed and classy... But this sounds like something Rolex would do. I can't decide. Please help me choose:
“Nobody ever went broke, underestimating the taste of the American public.” Attrib. H L Mencken………& possibly Hublot ? Whatever…I am quite sure that observation, is certainly not restricted, to national boundaries As a professional, visual designer…personally…my initial perception of the ‘design’,…based on that image,… is of an ‘Elementary School’ class project Hey Ho !……I am obviously not the target market
add green, yellow and other bezels with assorted pastel colors and call it .... the Rainbow Limited Edition
Those were my thoughts exactly when I saw these. Must be intended for more flashier and flamboyant buyers... Would go well with your new shorts..
£36,000 (rubies) !!! Astonishing, and paradoxical to my eye as I see these as three of the least attractive Speedies of all time. All the more regrettable as I've always liked Moonphase dials (more usually as executed on Pocket Watches). Omega seem of late to have made a series of love 'em or hate 'em Speedy versions: for me, love 'em - Speedy Tuesday, Dark Side, 2018 CK2998; hate 'em - Silver Snoopy Award, 2018 Apollo 8, 2016 CK2998. But, after all is said and done, a standard Moonwatch remains a very desirable object, and you can have TEN of them for the price of one of these new-fangled BlingThings - bah!
Good thing that they issued this lot of Speedy "Liberaces" in 2018. I agree with Robert that the green is the best of the bunch, but unfortunately I don't have one of these to match the overall look Agree with Mr. Squirrel that there are so many better options from A.Lange, Patek, FP Journe etc at the suggested price point. Hopefully the Apollo 11 50th LEs next year will stick to the true moon watch theme...I am OK with Omega releasing both 42mm Speed Pro and 44.25mm cases next year...but please, pretty please...do make the designs something an astronaut would be proud to wear
At first I thought you were making a bit of a stretch in your comparison, until I read the article and read the dials have precious stones and will retail at > $70k USD... holy Hannah! There would never ever be a day of my life on this earth where I would take a pile of serious cash and plunk it down for one of these. Good god! I’d rather buy a simple Moonphase, have a watchmaker remove the dial, give it to my 3 year old niece with some fancy markers and fake gems and have her bling it up for about $5. It would look about as good to me, I could give her 6 or 7 to do for that price.
